This is a 60ft Catamaran setup, motor/solar combo, for a mere ~$2,000,000.

Maybe I don't need a house at all. I wonder how the math works out, compared to a house, including maintenance and fuel and slip fees and the rest. Like a floating Modern Apartment or some such.

I could suffer through it, I'm sure.

Well Dang It - This will not work for me unless the solar panels will not break when I land my helicopter on top of them...Had it not been for this problem and the fact that I am still saving to buy that helicopter Big Grin I guess I will have to pass....

Truth told - what a beautiful boat for those who can afford it....I like how more and more companies/people are thinking about utilizing renewable energy...I saw a motor home the other day that half of its roof was solar panels....

Thanks for sharing 46and2....Mark

It would make a nice floating home if you just stayed at the dock. Not so good if you wanted to go anywhere. 100 miles a day = 4.4 miles per hour (100 miles divided by 24 hours). That's about the speed of a riding lawn mower. Smile

I would but I'd have to park it in the driveway on days I don't use it. Don't think the neighbors would be too happy with that...

My buddy has a 48’ Leopard Catamaran with Sails. The space on these boats is crazy - we joke that it is his floating home addition - he lives on the water in a small 1800 sqft original Florida home. These boats have crazy amount of living space and a pretty good ride. Cost about as much as a small addition (he bought used / 2015 from Belize Charter company and sailed to Florida).

I would still want a mast and sails but that is pretty cool.

I was thinking of something like this for the coming apocalypse. I could just live on the high seas, only coming ashore to loot and pillage when I'm low on supplies. I just need to fit her with a Jolly Roger and weapons worthy of a pirates ship.

Can you hose down the solar panels with sea water after the gulls have crapped all over them?

Since its solar powered, no doubt the gov't will give you a huge rebate for energy conservation. Probably pay for a large share of it.

Slip fees for a 50 footer on Lake Lanier, for instance, are about $4000 a year. There are extras for power and waste pumpout.

The rate at Harbour Town Marina in Hilton Head is about $30 per foot per month. So a 50' is about $1500 a month, plus some fees.

I was thinking some annual globetrotting path that did nothing but follow the good weather and nice places, thereby avoiding hurricanes altogether.

The Mediterranean for these months, somewhere else after that, back and forth, round and round, maybe buy some obscure and inexpensive (non-pedo) Island only approachable by boat/helo, on the most scenic, safe, and peacefully hedonistic route, since we're day dreaming/f-ing around...

Surely other people have figured these things out. I should research it. Maybe get a coastal bit of land somewhere on navigable water... how fun would that be, and so useful when/if the zombies arrive.

This plan is sounding better by the day.

At what speed does drink spillage become a problem?

This won't be a war vessel, more a floating Penthouse.
