China seeks power beyond water with world’s biggest dam
Motuo dam touted as China’s ‘project of the century’, which when finished will give Beijing control over India’s water supply

It will be four times larger than China’s previous signature hydropower project, the Three Gorges Dam, which spans the Yangtze River in central China.

China’s already vast infrastructure programme has entered a new phase as building work starts on the Motuo hydropower project.

The dam will consist of five cascade hydropower stations arranged from upstream to downstream and, once completed, will be the world’s largest source of hydroelectric power. It will be four times larger than China’s previous signature hydropower project, the Three Gorges Dam, which spans the Yangtze River in central China.

The Chinese premier, Li Qiang, has described the proposed mega dam as the “project of the century.” In several ways, Li’s description is apt. The vast scale of the project is a reflection of China’s geopolitical status and ambitions.

Possibly the most controversial aspect of the dam is its location. The site is on the lower reaches of the Yarlung Zangbo River on the eastern rim of the Tibetan plateau. This is connected to the Brahmaputra River, which flows into the Indian border state of Arunachal Pradesh as well as Bangladesh. It is an important source of water for Bangladesh and India.

Both nations have voiced concerns over the dam, particularly since it can potentially affect their water supplies. The tension with India over the dam is compounded by the fact that Arunachal Pradesh has been a focal point of Sino-Indian tensions. China claims the region, which it refers to as Zangnan, saying it is part of what it calls South Tibet.

At the same time, the dam presents Beijing with a potentially formidable geopolitical tool in its dealings with the Indian government. The location of the dam means that it is possible for Beijing to restrict India’s water supply.

As well as sustaining China’s population, the hydropower provided by the dam is another part of China’s wider push towards self-sufficiency. It’s estimated that the dam could generate 300 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity every year – about the same amount as produced by the whole UK.

The U.S. used to do things like this. I keep saying if the "greens" don't want fossil fuels, Hydro is the most scalable engergy dense method of power generation available. Niagra and Hoover make a lot of power.

But no, they complain about fish migration or rodents living where the backup lake will be.

Aren't they having serious problems with the Three Gorges Dam?

80 cracks are serious if you're the 400 million people downstream of it.

They aren't serious if your the leader of a commie nation with poor human rights record and an economy on the verge of the bubble bursting.

The Chinese do manage to complete some impressive engineering projects.

Not sure that's going to end well...

Coal plants, massive hydroelectric dams & electric generation. I’m sure while doing all this they prefer if the USA signs on to global ‘climate accords’.

We get to hamstring our energy generation, as the Chinese sprint forward. The lefties in the USA will support all this.

All this is to power the future AI data center power, it's going to be a massive amount of electricity demand, nothing really for the people of China, just the governments goal to dominate the AI market.

In the US, expect your power bills to double or triple in the coming decades while the US tries to find ways to get around the green power initiatives and build Coal, Gas, Nuclear, Hydro power stations.

One of the places I got most often in China is a city called Dalian. And every year they have a convention for Davos World Economic Forum in a convention center across the street from the hotel I stay in.

The globalists want the whole world to have a government like China - run by Elites who cannot be voted out or countermanded by anyone. I think it's fairly obvious now that they are working with China to convince the West to de-industrialize and de-carbonize via propaganda, bribes, and other methods, such that the West falls and China becomes the largest economic power and the RMB becomes the world reserve currency. They are also pushing the 3rd world invasion of the west and buying votes with handouts.
