This afternoon after returning from New Orleans/VA hospital heart (cardio) appointment for wife(veteran 8 1/2yrs) stopped into a Firemans Sub sandwich shop (denham springs, la) for a couple of subs. Walked in right behind a man that I had seen come from a 18wheeler truck parking lot. While waiting to place my order a man/wife couple sitting at a table saw my veterans cap as well as my leather vest (colors) (military themed) and said thanks for my service. Replied that I would do it again (9 1/2yrs and that the wife had 8 1/2yrs active duty also). Well I guess that the truck driver(from OHIO) overheard our conversation and offered to pay for both me/wife. Tried to say thanks but was not necessary. But he would not take a no as a answer. Was welcomed supprise. But I was able to get him to accept a key ring colored bead(green/yellow/red commbination pattern of the Viet Nam service ribbon) that one leg is for those that return and the other leg as for our brothers and sisters that did not return home. His reply as that he would be honored to carry it in remembernce of our troops. Have passed out over 200 sets to vets or a family member in honor of their service. Earlier today passed a bead to a young RN nurse at the hospital check in station and she started to cry out of gratiude. Have been asked how much is the cost = reply that those that served have already paid in full. Sometimes strangers will suprise you. God Bless Our Troops/past/present/future. .................drill sgt.

That's really cool. I'm glad people recognize your family's contributions to our freedom. I do too. Thank you.

You guys need to wear arm bands with those hats.
Black: means stay away

Red : means open to all appreciative conversation.

Yellow: means only other vets may approach.

There are many vets that are very picky about total strangers

I sometimes wear a Vet cap or LSU. Since I got a haircut you can see my VA hearing aids. LOL. I'm just a Vet no need to tell the world.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Internet check / google Viet Nam service beads. many different options. Personaly never thought about selling them. to me it was more personal thing to thank the veterans and or family members for their service. Have to admit that I did send Mr. Q (12131) one for all the Karma that he has shown to our troops. ....God bless our troops/past/present/future. ..........drill sgt.

Some don't mind a thank you, others give a stink eye.

Some accept a comped meal, others seem half offended.

Some are out going others ,not so much.

Instead of offering something to them,
I just give the waitress the funds for the meal and then depart.
