In December I dumped our local (only choice) cable internet provider and went with the T-Mobile Home Internet. I have been very happy with the switch.

Next step, I dumped AT&T Wireless for the T-Mobile Magenta Max plan. Reduced cost, better speed and connections have been great. We took our phones with us to T-Mobile.

Tomorrow the DISH installer will be here to install the DISH network. After he leaves, I will be dumping DirecTv. Better package at a lower cost.

Today, the Fiber Optic crew was painting white lines on our street, so, hopefully soon (fingers crosses), I will be researching going strictly to Fiber to stream and get my internet. Our future Fiber provider is our Electric Coop. If they run Fiber like they do our electric service, it will be great.

I, too, am thinking about getting rid of DirecTV for Dish. DTV keeps raising the price every year even though it's already priced through the roof, and they're owned by AT&T.

I have three TVs, 2 are smart, 1 is dumb. Presumably the dumb one will be connected to a receiver box thingy. Anyway, I can check back tomorrow night when they are done and we are up and running.

Presently we have the DirecTv Genie and two minis.

I just had DirecTv Stream cancel me. I went to load the app from my Fire tv and it asked if I wanted to update the app. Sure why not. It updated and downloaded. Logged in and I have no programming any longer. Called and they couldn't figure it out. Well I figured it out for them. I have or had what they refer to as a Legacy account because I have been with them for so long. I had programming they don't even offer any more because I was grandfathered in at a lower price than their lowest priced package now.

So it was their way of kicking their oldest and most loyal customer to the curb because they couldn't wring anymore money from me. I told them to fuck off. All I got now is ota tv which is fine with me. It's free. And I still have Amazon Fire tv when I want a movie. There are free apps out there that have some pretty good live programming as well. The only reason to pay for a cable, satellite service or streaming app anymore is if you want live sports programming.

A couple years ago I returned my 3 cable boxes and dropped Spectrum cable tv. Spectrum internet has been flawless so I kept that and internet based landline phone.

We subscribe to youtube tv and stream it. Even with a couple premiums the bill is considerably cheaper w/out box rent and since it's all internet there are no taxes or fees - yet. Wink

If you have decent broadband why would you need a satellite tv service?

Yep LMS, exactly what happened to us recently. Our bill is $150 and I have about had enough after close to 30 years.
I guess I am going to have to go the streaming route pretty soon unfortunately.

My wife dumped Direct TV and we're on Dish now. It's much better, not perfect, but my wife is satisfied and less money.

It's a decision based purely on the inability of my wife to deal with "advanced" tech. Hint: 80 this year.

We’ve been Comcast/Xfinity customer for decades every year had to fight the end of the “special” price deal when the monthly jumped 30% and commit to another 1-2 year as for a “special” price just a little more than we had been paying, but not as much as the hike would take it to.

Then add services I didn’t want or need to “bundle” three service together to get a lower price than what it would cost for just two services (internet/TV).

With the January price hikes, my monthly bill is now $260, our biggest expense aside from mortgage and medical insurance.

Ziply Fiber recently installed in out area and they are in the process of laying the fiber from the street to our house. Install should be completed next week and once I confirm everything is good, GOODBYE Comcast!

$70/month for unlimited data (1GB speed) and $65/mo for YouTube TV for TV and a savings of $125/month compared to Comcast (which has a data limit), almost a 50% cut in monthly cost.

What part of "...Shall not be infringed" don't you understand???

I love youtube tv compared to cable or dish, once you're set up every computer is a tv and recording is amazingly simple with unlimited capacity.

If the folks putting in your fiber optic are NAEC I can say that you won't be disappointed.

We've had them as our electric provider for decades and when they finished their fiber install in our area we switched from CenturyTel (phone) and SuddenLink (internet). We didn't have any tv service otherwise we would have switched that, too.

I have to say that competition DOES work to force a monopoly to lower their prices. For years where I live the de facto ONLY choice for internet service was Comcast. Oh you could get crappy DSL but that was it so basically Comcast knew they had us all by the balls and acted like it.

Back in May of last year we switched to fiber internet service from Windstream who apparently had recently put this in where we live. We dumped Comcast TV and internet which was approaching $200 a month and instead got the Windstream for $40 a month for 400 Mbps and YouTubeTV for $68 a month. So far it’s been great.

Wouldn’t you know…I start getting notices from Comcast to come back to them and they want to give me 400 Mbps internet for $40 a month for 2 years with no price increases. NORMALLY Comcast likes to punish you for only going with internet and not one of their “bundles” and charges much higher prices for standalone internet service.

It appears they are paying attention to the numbers of people dropping them for competitors like Windstream and what prices their competition are charging! This is very new for them as they previously used to have the attitude of “you need us more than we need you”.

My how times have changed.

Going to have to look into Dish, DTV has gotten too expensive, they have a 3 year lock in on price, $79, $99 and $109 plans and you get a $100 visa card.

Need to see what the extra fees, DVR, and cost for receivers are to really compare.

On a side note, folks “cutting the cord”, is having an affect. Diamond Sports Group which covers MLB games, purchased the regional sports networks from Fox for $10.6 billion in 2019. The company initially borrowed more than $8 billion to make the purchase and hasn't come close to generating the revenue it anticipated, due largely to the rate at which customers have been cutting the cord on cable throughout America.

If you have good high speed internet, you don’t even need a dish anymore. YouTubeTV just requires an internet connection and a smart TV or some other device like a Roku and does everything a dish does.

Internet TV is the future

Most people who've done that are pleased with the service, but, Starlink is kind of spendy: $600 for the ground terminal and $110/month for the service.

And the current ground terminals don't even come with an Ethernet port. You have to buy an additional USB<->Ethernet adapter if you want a wired connection.

There was no cable or wired phone available here. I had Dish first then after being fed up with them switched to Direct TV. After a year or two I got rid of them as well. For internet I used Hughesnet satellite which was s l o w but was my only choice for years. Finally the local rural provider Prodigi brought fiber my way 2 years ago so I have that for internet. Since I haven't had TV for years I didn't bother with Prodigi's TV service, $65 a month for good internet is all I need.
I hope you didn't enter into a long contract with Dish because if I were you I'd be out there talking to the fiber optic provider now to see how soon they could connect you to that.
