I need help. My wife is a computer programmer and one of the other programmers is moving in to a new house. He is having a housewarming party this weekend. My wife isn't sure what to bring for him as a gift.

The guy is a programmer, a minimalist (doesn't like a lot of stuff on his desk). He is a bodybuilder and spends a lot of time working out. He eats healthy and doesn't drink. A plant would probably die.

So I need some housewarming gift ideas for her. What do you recommend?

If he has a yard, cars, etc. and may ever lay hands on each of them, get him a big digging rod from HD or Lowe's. This is my go-to for new homeowners, along with the explanation that I don't know what they will use it for first, nor do they.

But when they need a big freakin' steel rod to break, dig, pry, knock, etc. something they will have it and thank me for it. My nephew I last gave one to was about 6 years in before I got the call, and yeah he was laughing at my foresight.

If he eats healthy, maybe a nice wood cutting board or good chef's knife? A leather snap valet tray can be useful.

What is your budget? Maybe a good crockpot?? But that might not be too useful to someone who works out a lot. Don't think there are too many crockpot tofu recipes... Smile
