tsmccullMassachusetts lawmakers came up with an egg-cellant plan
Eggs will largely disappear from Massachusetts grocery store shelves come Jan. 1, 2022, unless state lawmakers act quickly to amend a strict new animal welfare law.
In 2016, Massachusetts voters overwhelmingly passed an animal treatment measure that, in part, made it illegal to sell eggs born of hens with less than 1.5 square feet of floor space in their enclosure. Now that decision, scheduled to take effect in 2022, is coming home to roost — and it's threatening to wipe out the supply of eggs in the state.
According to the Boston Globe, egg industry representatives such as the New England Brown Egg Council are predicting that the new rules will decrease the state's current egg supply by approximately 90%.
Maybe eggs will still be readily available to the rest of us in 2022 since Massachusetts won’t be buying!

Limit it to 10 eggs. No high capacity egg cartons. Who needs more than 10 eggs ?

mdblantonI would say the politicians who passed such a short-sighted policy will end up with egg on their faces but it sounds like that won’t be possible given the impending shortage.

sigmonkeyRequire a license for the purchase or possession of eggs.
Impose a minimum age to purchase or possess eggs.
Require a license to sell eggs.

ranger312CA will require all eggs be from cage free hens starting 1/1/22. And new regs on pork production as well. Bacon and eggs is going to be an expensive meal out there

RightwireBan high capacity egg cartons as they promote chicken abuse. Limit egg cartons to a maximum capacity of 6.
Also, it should be a illegal to make an omelette with more than two eggs to reduce burden on chickens.

I'm not gonna claim we
will do this, because I'm not going to predict the future, but, with Michigan apparently turning increasingly blue and the Michigan GOP being about as useful as teats on a boar hog: My intention is, much as I'll regret having to do so and as much a PITA as it will be at our ages: If the state gets bad enough we will be leaving.

As someone who was raised and edumacated in NH I see a business opportunity here.
Just set up a little stand at one of the famous rest stop and liquor stores along the NH/MA border and sell eggs for $20/dozen. You could probably make a few grand before noon.

They'll need a permit. Conceal carry for an 18 count egg carton will be difficult in the summer months.
