I had always wondered what was being said when Mandarin was being spoken in the dialogue... and who on the set spoke and understood enough of it to write it into the scene scripts.
Pretty sure they had a bilingual speaker on staff.
There are a number of sites that have the translations.

ridgeratThe thought of naming a gun never would have entered my mind. But I couldn't open this thread fast enough wondering if others do!

Hound DogMy AR is Vera (from the quoted Firefly episode).
My Glock is Heidi. My SIG is Gretchen.
Helps when the missus and I talk in code. Wife would ask "Did you bring Heidi?" as we check into a hotel, for example.
My first car was La Bomba (Spanish for The Bomb); renamed to "Christine" after it tried to kill me multiple times (left rear brake would lock up at random, sending me careening left of center). Several times.
My 4Runner is Yoshi. Because it was built in Japan.

WindhoverI don't name my rifles. Swords and axes, yes. Rifles, no.

YooperSigsNo names for my artillery. Its hard enough to come up with a good name for a cat.

Sure.
But, in this case, I wouldn't sweat it.

Naming guns = ridiculous
So is referring to your gun as her.

Balzé HalzéThis thread was totally worth it just for the
Firefly reference and clip.

Private Gomer Pyle : Sir! Yes, sir!
Well that makes more sense, doesn’t it? It think I’ve seen the movie twice and didn’t remember the reference. On the other hand, I played way to many arcade games at the roller rink as a kid and The Gap Band was popular. Playing Missle Command listening to “You Dropped a Bomb on Me”, good times.

Hamden106OK I will expose my non-conformity
Dad about 1950 named his 721 270 Daisy. Daisy is still in the family with a cousin of mine.
There have been so many rifles between Dad and I that we had to name a lot of them just to keep them straight.
After Daisy, there are
Maggie, 300Wby
Huntley, 338 made on Win 54
Oney, Win 54 3006 named after previous owner
Big Oney, Win 70 long magnum rebarreled to 338 with Douglas
Catteraugus, Rem 725 243 named after the sharpening stone. Not sure how that happened.
Jerry, Rem 721 3006 named after my potential at the time father in law. That didn't happen, but the name stuck.
Elsy, my first Rem 725 270. Named by Dad saying "do right or ELSE you lose this rifle". I was 10.
Trigger, Colt Coltsman 223 on Sako action. Has the Colt logo on the stock. I still have this one.
Smoke Pole, Dads Wby 378.
Weaver, one of Dads Win 70s. Not sure why. But I still have the very fancy stock from "her/him/it" take your pick.
Millie, Rem 722 6mm rebarreled with huge heavy barrel
That's all I can think of real quick. All Win 70s mentioned are pre 64 of course

rock185I've never named, or assigned a gender, to a gun. I have, more than once, made a post and wished I hadn't

NuclearI’ve named one gun so far, “Thumper”, it throws heavy slugs.
Other than that I named one car when I was much younger.

My wife refers to my carry as 'your friend'.
Hence, after she rushes me out of the house (as she sometimes does), I might say to her 'I forgot my friend'. Which has happened.
