I lost 35 lbs. just quitting regular soda, and going diet. Not sure if it is a better choice, but anything that cuts that weight can't be all bad.

It's pretty easy to adapt most recipes with acceptable substitutes. I added cooked radishes to a beef roast and nobody noticed that they weren't potatoes. Minced cauliflower in place of rice is pretty good with stir-fry dishes. You can make bread and other treats with almond flour or oat fiber instead of wheat flour.

What do you usually like to eat?

Go for some bbq! I love wings in the air fryer too. Almost as good as fried and a lot less calories.

What I eat, except I have frozen shredded potatoes with my eggs in the am. The frozen shredded potatoes seem to not raise my blood sugar as do mashed, boiled or fried potatoes. Also bran flakes have high fiber to offset the carbs & I eat them dry as a snack. I eat a lot of boiled shrimp purchased head-on from Cajun Grocer. Mixed green salads with olive oil & white balsamic vinegar. And most important, if you are on Statins stop taking them & see if your blood sugar readings drop. I was on 80mg of Simvastatin for several years & I am convinced that was the cause of my type 2 diabetes. When I stopped taking Simvastatin my blood sugar dropped within 2 days, but the damage was already done.

I agree. Despite all the Internet BS about deadly diet drinks, there is no proven link to any disease or ill effect unless you have phenylketonuria.

Slamming down 140 extra calories to quench your thirst is certainly not good if trying to lose weight or control blood sugar.

Try Paleo, it takes some time to get used to not having carbs but if I can do it anyone can. There are Paleo recipes for desserts and everything else you can think of. I just started the intermittent fasting along with cardio exercise and Paleo diet to see how it works. It’s only my first week on the IF so too soon to tell but you might try IF. I’m doing the 16/8 and it works well with my schedule. In the end there is no weight loss secret. If you consume more calories than you eat you will lose weight. With different metabolisms though some people can do that easier than people like me. People think that I’d it worked for them it will work for everyone the same way. Good luck on your quest.

My salad is 1/4c blackberries, half an avocado, small tomato, 2tsp apple cider vinegar sprinkled on it, 2T sour cream and 2T full fat plain greek yogurt, 1tsp sunflower seeds and 1tsp pumpkin seeds, 1oz raw walnuts and 1oz macadamia nuts. Cinnamon on top. With everything, it comes out to around 18.5g carbs. Add meat, fish, eggs, and it's a meal.

Steak and eggs.

Been doing low/no carbs for over 15 years. Helps me keep abs all year round. Your best bet is to keep it simple.

We've been using an Instant Pot a lot and doing pork shoulder roasts and beef chuck roasts quite often. We change up the seasonings. That gives us the protein and we typically just add any fresh vegetables on hand to make a meal. We do a lot of grilling as well, both meat and vegetables on the grill. Zucchini and yellow squash with a bit of olive oil, salt and pepper are vegetables we grill a lot that go with a lot of foods. We keep it pretty simply for the most part and don't really consider ourselves low carb eaters. We just eat a lot fewer simple carbs. As a diabetic, I've found that my sugar can be completely stable with a fair amount of carbs as long as they are the right carbs for me. Not everyone reacts the same to different foods. For carbs, portion control is important. I normally won't eat white bread. I may have some whole-grain bread, but only 1 small piece with a meal. If I want white rice, I've found that Basmati rice doesn't spike my blood sugar (but I probably only eat 1/2 cup per meal). Pearl barley doesn't affect my sugar either.

That's it basically right there. It's pretty much how I eat every day.

For a snack, I like a banana with almond butter spread on it. An apple is a good snack too. Any nut mix (not the kind with M&M's in it or dried cranberries they add sugar too though). Hard boiled eggs with a little salt on them, beef stick (no sugar added...make your own is the best), string cheese, salami...all things I like to snack on.

Just cut out refined sugar and simple carbs and you'll shed weight.

For meals on the go, Chipotle with a chicken and brown rice bowl is ok. Chilli from Wendy's. Jimmy Johns Unwich...I'll try to think what else I use as go to's on the road.

Dinner, the crock pot can be your friend. My wife makes a really good balsamic pork recipe in our crock.

Also, you can cook chicken breasts in the crock and add hot sauce/siracha. Then you shred the chicken and it kind of makes a hot wing type of deal, but super healthy.

The grill is also your friend. Fish, chicken, beef, veggies...get a good grill/smoker book and have fun.

My wife makes a really good asparagus/shrimp/pesto dinner that's amazing.

I've made people mad for saying this in the past, but I don't really care because it's the truth, being fat is a choice. If you choose to eat foods that will make you fat, you're choosing to be fat. It's really that simple.

I lost 40 lbs just by changing the way I ate. I didn't work out on second to lose it. We eat totally wrong today. We've been fed high sugar, high simple carbs food for decades and it's the opposite of what we should be eating.

Watch a movie called That Sugar Film. I think it's still on Amazon or Netflix. I watched it one night when I couldn't sleep and it changed my life. It's been almost 2.5 years ago now.

I was down in the pantry at 3:00 am looking at the sugar content of our food and was appalled after watching it.

I will note, the first month of quitting refined sugars and simple carbs was absolute hell. I was constantly hungry, I felt a little sick, I was tired...brutal!

Eventually I started being less hungry and stopped craving sugary foods. Now if I eat sugar, I actually start to feel sick and sluggish like I did when I stopped. I'm convinced sugar is addicting and a bit like a drug. You will go through a minor detox when you quit it.

After about two months it got pretty easy. After about 6 months, it was just my way of life. A couple years in, I don't ever want to eat like that again.

Shoot for zero grams of carbs or sugar and you'll still probably take in 20g by accident. But if you can keep it to 20g/day, you will lose weight at a steady pace and pretty quickly.

My breakfast is a few slices of Black Forest ham in the fry pan, topped by a fried egg with a slice of white American cheese.

Snacks are slices of Muenster cheese or string cheese or provolone wrapped in Genoa salami slices.

Lunch is usually roast beef rolled up with Swiss or white American, sometimes cooked in a pan to melt everything.

Dinner is always meat or fish and green veggies.

No beer, just bourbon or vodka.

I don't drink soda at all, ever. If I feel the need for sugar, I drink Powerade Zero. My cheat treats are peanut butter granola bars. One pack has two for a total of 27g. I have to have that in order to lift weights in the afternoon. I'm in total ketosis, when I get to the gym, everything feels 20 lbs. heavier.

I make something similar.

1# Italian sausage
1-2 medium zucchini diced in large chunks
1 large onion diced
2 cloves garlic minced
1 can diced tomatoes
1/2 tsp pepper

Cook sausage, zuke, and onion until sausage is done. Add garlic. Add tomatoes and pepper. Bring to boil, reduce heat and simmer until reduced to your liking.

I serve it over angel hair pasta, but this could be changed to something else or omitted altogether.

Super tasty, good for you, very easy to make, and it leaves lots of leftovers that are easy to reheat and enjoy.

A little bit of brown rice or quinoa is what I'd use. But note just a little, not a huge heaping pile.
