I’m curious if there is any pattern. Although I’ve experienced many minor issues with mail deliveries, the only two priority mail packages I’ve had delayed significantly—several days—from the originally expected delivery dates in recent times were guns to my dealer. Coincidence, I’m sure, but ….

Any similar experiences?

Parts of the midwest got a nasty storm on Sunday, we got over a foot in the IA/IL Quad Cities. That may have contributed to the slow service.

3 Christmas' ago, I bought a 270 on-line and had it shipped to a FFL by my Dad's house.

The FFL was a brick & mortar gun store, and he told me that he didn't receive a delivery in the 2 weeks leading up to Christmas. He had video cameras pointing towards the street and UPS never even drove down the street (business on a side street). Every morning (we're talking 6 to 6:30), somebody at the distribution center would mark the package unable to deliver since business wasn't open. He had UPS employees waiting on FFL, ammo, scope, etc. deliveries and they got mgmt involved. No idea what happened, but I got my 270.

My Sig 320 is supposed to be returned to me on Monday from Sig. It was sent Fedex on 11/29, 2nd day. That means it will sit in a warehouse over the weekend.
Of course they require an adult signature for delivery so will have to take a day off to make sure I am home to receive it.
There are other delivery options, but none are available where I live.

Thanks. I was not aware of that. There was a postal service notice about wildfires in California causing delays, but nothing about the storm. I really don't expect too much from mail tracking, but I was curious whether anyone else had had unusual delays with mailed gun shipments.

When I have packages coming by FedEx that need a signature, and I won't be home, I have them leave it at a nearby FedEx store. I can then swing by there and sign for it. Of course, if there are no stores near you, that won't work.

USPS tracking seems to be very spotty as far as when / if it gets updated. Of course sometimes it provides great humor value, like the time a TGS package (that they shipped so fast it must have been packed before I ordered) came halfway to CA, then turned and headed back to New Orleans where it hung out for a week. It was a good thing I wasn’t in a hurry as I was able to laugh about my package touring Bourbon Street. Wink

Last Wednesday I had a pistol shipped from a dealer in Galesburg IL to me in southern Iowa. It was sent next day FedEx and it arrived this Tuesday after traveling to Indianapolis IN.
Six days to travel what should have been a 200 mile trip.

The last gun I shipped (July 2017) via USPS Priority seemed to be delayed 1 day. Not a big deal, other than when the SF member who bought it finally got it from his FFL, two extra mags were missing.

Turns out a USPS employee helped himself to the mags, resealed the tape over the tape he had cut, and so I had to reimburse the buyer. It was a learning experience. USPS doesn’t have nearly the internal security measures that FedEx does. The USPS OIG only responded to my repeated attempts to contact them and never followed up. They never intended to. I still have the text messages and a picture showing the cut tape and the retape job, which prompted a USPS employee at the receiving PO to take cell phone pictures.

Lesson learned. The USPS insurance was worthless. USPS inspectors don’t have time for small claims. And there are some scum USPS employees within many POs.
