Anyone have any experience with the Gloryfire brand in-ear protection? I am sick of my electronic muffs compressing my sunglasses against my temples, as well as making it difficult to get good sight alignment on some long guns of mine, therefore, I’ve been looking at an in-ear electronic hearing protection option.

The walkers brand seems like it’s hit or miss, so I’ve been looking at the Axil and the Gloryfire brands. I don’t really care about Bluetooth capability. I just want electronic earbuds that I can hear a normal conversation with.

I have the Axil in-ear hearing protectors. They do a decent job, but earmuffs and foam plugs give more protection. The Axil units are definitely more comfortable to wear, especially on a hot day. I don’t use the Bluetooth capability at all.

I just use cheap 3M-type earplugs for exactly that reason. They also don't squeeze my head, or interfere with my cheek weld like muffs.

And these need to be used properly. They can have better noise reduction than over the ear muffs but have to be properly inserted.
I post this as a service as I was surprised how many responses I got when posting a video on this before.

I went with rechargable ones, got tired of messing with batteries.
Milwaukie ear buds, charge lasts all day even playing music.

So then is electronic in-ear protection really adequate for hearing safety? I I feel like I see them between 26 and 29 decibel reduction rated so to me that seems like as good as anything I’ve seen for any other earplugs, but I hate to give up muffs and have less protection.

I would think that these companies that sell in-ear protection would not be very successful if they were not hearing safe at the range.

I've a pair of OTTO NoizeBarrier Micro in-ear electronic earpro.

I bought them because no over-the-ear earpro has ever worked for me for rifle and shotgun.

I upgraded the tips to Comply Professional Noise-Isolating Earphone Tips. (None of the tips that came with them worked well for me.)

Then I went to a nearby outdoor range to test them.

First I stood next to guys shooting some pretty big guns—both rifle and handgun (with their permission). This range has semi-enclosed shooting positions with elevation-limiting baffles forward.

Worked like a charm. I could of course hear and feel the gunshots, but never did the sound impulses reach an uncomfortable level.

Then I stood around behind the shooting line and conversed with the range crew and some others while the range was live.

Never once had to ask anybody to repeat themselves.

They're expensive, though. I don't recall what I paid, but their MSRP is now up to $470.

Yeah, the Comply Professional Noise-Isolating Earphone Tips made a tremendous difference in their noise-cancelling performance for me.

Thanks for the replies guys. I actually did some more research and although the Otto’s seem like they may be indeed the best out there, I feel the Axil’s should do the trick for me and my needs. Decent sale right now as well so I got a pair for $150 plus some tax. Will let you know how I like them. Never heard about them until I saw the brand represented on Honest Outlaws YouTube channel.

One thing about the Axils - the ones I got had the medium ear cushions installed. They did not seal at all. I had to switch to the large size cushions to get a good seal when wearing them. YMMV but I wanted to let you know. Good luck.

Yes, generally. They are fine for most shooting, although recently I had to switch back to foam plugs and Walker’s slim muffs for a particularly loud rifle with a muzzle brake and shorter barrel.

I have a pair of Walker's Razor Silencer earbuds. I have only used them a couple of times. They are not without flaws but they absolutely make shooting 3" shells in a duck blind with 3 other guys perfectly comfortable. You can easily talk to one another and shoot with no hearing discomfort.
