Hello Forum,

I have been bushwacked into a wedding this coming October in Aubrey, TX. This will be our first time in the great nation/state and we are thinking about making a vacation out of it. The better half is not the active type (a short, level hike at most) but loves sightseeing, nice hotels, good eats, pools, and shopping. I am along for the ride and and just looking forward to seeing new things and meeting nice people. We would be renting a car and spending a week in the area. I was hoping for a good 4-5 star hotel recommendation. Any suggestions from the forum about places to go and things to see? Thanks so much!

You could fish in Lewisville Lake or Lake Ray Roberts.

Dallas and Ft. Worth are near, with loads of things to do. Ft. Worth is a fun town.

The fish is mute, expressionless. The fish doesn't think because the fish knows everything.

Looking at the map, Aubrey is about 10 miles NE of Denton, which is a fair-sized city. Denton is known as a music destination, but I confess I've no experience with it. Are you expecting to spend your vacation nights IN Aubrey, or are you acceptable to overnighting elsewhere and traveling tp Aubrey for the wedding? My map (Streets & Trips @ 2012) shows only one B&B within 4 miles of the Aubrey town center, but you should be able to do much better in Denton (26 within 4 miles of the city center).

Aubrey is almost equi-distant from Fort Worth and Dallas. Fort Worth has the reputation of being the more "Western" of the 2 cities, and Dallas the more "Cosmopolitan". Both have active arts communities, and the Fort Worth Stockyards are a tourist destination (with Billy Bob's). Photographically, the water feature at the FW Convention Center is well known, and the Reunion Tower in Dallas is nice. The herd of metal steers in downtown Dallas is also of note.

I'm not much of a local travel guide, so others will have to fill in more details. This link has some suggestions: https://travel.usnews.com/Dall...rth_TX/Things_To_Do/

IN Aubrey, there’s nothing. You’ll have to select something in either Denton (collegetown) or Ft.Worth or Dallas.

Stop in and say hello to Randy Travis, he lives there. Or, drive to Ft Worth and visit the stockyards area, lots to see and do. Eat at Joe T. Garcia's while you are in the stockyards area.

You might consider staying at the Gaylord Texan on Grapevine Lake. It's less than an hour from Aubrey and that'll put you easily within driving distance from Fort Worth and Dallas to see sights and restaurants.

You may have lucked out. The “ River Hills Nudist Park, Aubrey, TX” may have closed due to pandemic... Razz

You may have to go to Hippie Hollow in Austin for the same entertainment now. It is the only legally recognized clothing-optional public park in the State of Texas.

Something is screwed up for it to be state recognized. No, everything is screwed up in Austin.

Everyone is correct so far, nothing in Aubrey. My grandparents were married in Aubrey and lived in Pilot Point, nothing there either, which is about 7 miles north. I spent many happy days visiting them. Be sure to bring a coat. That is the time of year for a "blue norther" to blow down and drop the temperature 20-30 degrees in a matter of minutes.
