First to my knowledge was Bath School massacre 1927. Despicable scumbag did 3 bombings in about 15 minutes - blew his house up, blew the school up 15 minutes after school started, and blew himself and school superintendent up.

I’m thinking maybe the “poor” explosive design/vehicle choice may have been intentional. Suicidal, wanted to make an anti Trump/Musk statement, but wasn’t necessarily looking for a big body count of collateral damage.

Especially considering the decision to use fireworks. They are designed for flashy, colorful show without much destructive force. If he really wanted more damage, a bunch of Gerry cans of gas would have been easier and probably do more damage.

At the same time, I'll question it: is there a method by which he could/would have shot himself after the explosion? That just doesn't seem to time out correctly to me. As in, I think the explosion would have taken him out, and he wouldn't have then had the opportunity to shoot himself. I could be wrong....

I believe Teslas will not simply drive around a slumped body behind the wheel. It needs to see your eyes on the road and occasionally will ask for pressure to be applied to the steering wheel.

And unless the detonation was fairly soon after the gunshot, one would think a .50 AE Desert Eagle going off might be noticed. Those things are loooouuuud.

Well, I think that's the point. If there was a half-inch bullet hole through his noggin, it's almost certain that's what killed him, and not the blast (as some news agencies are still reporting).

However, anything's theoretically possible. He may have survived the gunshot long enough to experience the explosion. He may have set off the bomb, and survived that, but was enflamed and used the Deagle to terminate his suffering.

The coincidences are interesting. Perhaps there an imam or shaykh that incited the attackers independently. Some figure such as the deceased Anwar al-Alwaki or Omar Abdel Rahman. Some obscure SOB. A psychological study of suicide bombers proposed that guilt feelings about inadequate piety could be a motive. The 'martyr' attempts to atone by the violent action against the kufr.
