There is a great deal of truth to this. The 'public' schools are socialist by their very nature... and kids become socialist by indoctrination.

Donald Trump won because he inspired people to vote who had never voted before. They felt disenfranchised, felt that no one represented them. They did not show up in polls exactly because they were out of the mainstream political machine.
Gillespie inspired no one. He is an establishment hack, and he got his ass kicked by a Democrat who doesn't rely on inspiration, but rather on a cynical one-hand-washes-the-other understanding with his parasitic constituents.
There is a message for Republicans in this election, but it is the opposite of "this is a referendum on Trump." It's a referendum on establishment Republicans, on the Uniparty.
Enact Trump's agenda-- you know, the one that propelled him to a stunning victory-- or LOSE.
The tax cut is do-or-die for the Republican Party-- which is actually becoming more hateful to me than the Democrat Party. And, trust me, I loathe the Democrat Party.

totally agree
Can you imagine what a campaign stop would have looked like if Donald Trump had been there to endorse Gillespie in SW Virginia ?
Because of the current demographics, VA will be a tough state for REPs. The only way to win is all out full throttle.
We knew we had to vote out a bunch of DEMs to get things moving in the right direction, but now it looks like we need to vote out a bunch of REPs too.
One thing that is troublesome. Donald Trump is so unique. We need to start cloning people similar to him (same goals as his campaign goals)

Or, maybe his own party could stop cringing and quaking and embrace more of his policies so that their brand came to mean something other than 'Not Democrat.'

Two things about Donald Trump are unique. 1. He's a billionaire. He doesn't need to kiss-ass and suck up to the establishment's lobbyists for money. 2. He stands up to the media. He doesn't kiss up to the media out of fear or in order to try to get more favorable coverage.
Cloning billionaires is hard. Standing up to the media takes balls... and it's somewhat related to #1 because it helps to know that if you have money you can still get your message out without the media.

plotting some Virginia revenge. how about this:
REP congress passes some good legislation
repeals ocare gets a handle on illegals goes after DEM corruption
We get a 2018 senate candidate aligned w President Trump (Corey Stewart ?)
Then we vote out Tim Kaine in 2018. (one year from now)
wouldn't that be a nice comeback?

The Trump deranged dems were highly motivated, The republicans weren't due to inaction by their party to get anything they promised done. The establishment first republicans know what it would take to energize their party, but to them doing nothing to make Trump look good is more important. To the establishment it matters little who wins as long as they are establishment. Must continue the mission of deterring outsiders to never try what Trump did.
If republicans lose big in 2018, the establishment republicans don't really care, they know they are all the same. They'll squander the rare opportunity of both house majorities and a same party president, because they didn't really want to do anything anyway except talk about it.
They are more interested in tripping up Trump so he can't win in 2020 than getting anything done.

Wow.... ya, you're right. The establishment republicans don't really care... If they really wanted to, they could have repealed Obamacare on day #1 and they could have then moved to tax reform. Instead.... nothing.

Not only were the democrats highly motivated but then there is this
In 2016, 1.7 million Virginians voted for Donald Trump
Ed Gillespie got 1.1 million votes on Tuesday
Where were the other 600k?

I was so mad on Tuesday night when I saw the results, I mean seriously his goals are a sanctuary state and raise taxes. I agree the GOP establishment are a bunch of cowering dogs, they have a majority in both houses and still won't pass anything Trump puts forth. Don't get me started on McCain and McConnell both libs and in my book, has McCain backed anything from Trump? There really needs to be term limits for these folks, they get in and the money starts rolling in. Seriously what do they do? Go to a meeting the lunch the back to the office or home, they are all so out of touch with the common folks in this country.

Virginia victories show Tom Steyer’s best role may be behind the scenes
So maybe Steyer’s true strength — and value — to progressives lies in what his NextGen America organization did Tuesday to help Democrats win big in Virginia Tuesday night.
NextGen spent $3.3 million on grassroots organizing in Virginia. It didn’t spend that money on TV commercials starring Steyer; it spent it on the stuff that wins elections.
NextGen shelled out $2 million for 60 paid staffers and 1,000 volunteers in Virginia to flood 26 colleges in an effort to turn out young voters
The early result: Twice as many voters under 30 turned out for Democratic gubernatorial winner Ralph Northam on Tuesday than did for Hillary Clinton a year earlier, exit polls showed.
NextGen spent $1.2 million to turn out voters in new immigrant communities, knocking on 90,000 doors. And it worked with labor organizations to reach working class communities. The result: Democratic turnout was higher Tuesday than it was in previous midterm elections.
The good news for Democrats: Steyer is setting up similar operations in swing states around the country for next year’s midterm elections.

Trump LOST Virginia by 5 points.
