What we have is what was available....
Wife's 16 GB Huawei is constantly running out of operating space.

I added a 32GB sdd card and copied all internal memory contents to it then told the phone to use the card as main storage. There is no option to use both memories as one.

Erased a bunch of stored data from the internal memory hoping to make some breathing air but no joy.

We already uninstalled all non essential apps from the phone and some critical (printers) too.

Must be missing something...

I don't really know what else you can do but maybe look at the forum for your device at XDA Developers. I haven't gone there in years but they may have some tips you can use.

Hi Nicky,

First thing I'd do is track down what is using the storage. Android and phone apps are primitive at diagnosing this sort of thing - without knowing which apps are the offenders, you'd wind up going app-by-app down the memory management tools in your installed Android.

But if you can hook your Android to a PC, you may be able to use PC programs to analyze the size of the various folders and use that info to figure out the memory-hog Android apps. I did this by connecting my phone to the PC via USB and copied across everything on the phone, then used the free 'Folder Size' windows utility. Piece of cake to find out which folders have how many GB with that. Smile

Once you know the apps soaking up your GBs, you can go use the Android features on the phone to see if the OS allows you to restrict what those apps can do with your storage. Or maybe just uninstall those apps and seek alternative apps that might not be so memory-intensive.

Good luck with it. Programmers aren't worried about being storage size efficient these days - new phones come with huge storage and storing lots of cache can reduce the data download, which can save users data fees.

In addition to the Apps mentioned, check your photo and especially video storage volume.

I can work on my own, extremely focused. Maybe too much.
And I can try unsuccessfuly working with the spousal unit breathing down my neck.

Should have come up with Joel's logical search on my own. Will check the copy i got on my drive and see if it lets me move forward to more conclusive deductions.
Since everything is already on the SSD, if i delete folders and stuff it should not bother the OS.
My worries are that the hardware restricted memory is the one already full and not the user memory.

Thanks for the ideas.

Our phones are due for replacement but the global situation prevents us from travel and the local offer is not only abusively expensive but also a couple of years old by general standards. A waste of money.

Look through your apps again and move them to the SD card. I have a Samsung with inadequate memory. I move stuff to the SD card to do updates, and the damned phone moves stuff back to internal memory, clogging itself up again.

I have to do this routine each time I do an upgrade.

Go to Settings/Apps/ and then click on each app in order. It will open an app specific screen that MAY enable you to copy the entire app to the SD card. Move each app that you can move to SD, and then, hopefully, you will have enough free memory to do the software update. Some apps will not have a storage change option because they are designed to run only from internal storage.

Hi Artie.

I think I tried that already and didn´t work but no harm on trying it again.

Wife´s phone is experiencing exactly what you described.

You can also clear data and or cache for each app. This will delete preferences and take them off the home screen but it is a way to make more space.
