Moved my work office into the casa and that pays for interweb access and a business phone line, we cancelled the local cable interweb access and just piggy back through my router to the net through the business internet router.

We've had a land line for over 20 years, me I'd drop it like a rock but the wife want to keep it, apparently a need to give telemarketers something to call for $29 a month Razz

My plan is to dump it onto OOMA basic which is simply taxes and fees monthly so that will save a bunch, we make all calls on the cells I can't remember making a call on the land line for anything.

Costco has the Ooma Air 2 with HD3 handset for $109, amazon has refurb base oomas for $60, Air 2 on amazon is $120 plus $30 for the handset. Costco wins if you want the air 2.

Wondered if anyone is using Ooma, how well it works, or any other VOIP to dump cable. Basically its going to cut $30 a month for something we never use.

i have had ooma for 4 years and have not looked back. cut the cable too, netflix free with T-mobile, pay for Hulu and Amazon prime is free. Kids haven't had a TV feed in a year and haven't missed it. On a side not i stuck a sling box at my parents and get local sports from my home town...

I had OOoma for a long time, it was great. Quality of calls was even better than landline. Only reason I dropped it was I really wasn't using it anymore, used cell for everything.

I did get a small office I was consulting for switched to it. Saved them hundreds of dollars a month and they now have more features and control, loving it.

Thats next on my list, the Spectrum office package is quite limited, I'll have to use the home Ooma for a bit to get comfortable with it's abilities before switching work phones

OOMA at home since around 2010. Never an issue.

We have had magicJack for at least a decade, maybe 15+ years. It has been outstanding. Clarity is just fine as is the included missed called service. You can transfer your current landline number to them as well. It costs about $30/annum. Covers continental US; for Canada, elsewhere and overseas they have an option(s ?) which we have not availed ourselves of however.

Look at Obi + google voice. <$50 in hardware, free phone service. If you want/need 911 service on home phone, it's about $5 a month. Also have Obi-to-obi device connection for free (international VOIP for the cost of the hardware - $80 & my wife called her mom every day for 4-5 years)

You can also use other VOIP services with it if you need different features (voice to text for v-mail, etc).
Ooma might be a little more polished, but it's more expensive & you're locked into 1 service.

I was using Ooma as backup in my home office for my work cell phone. Ooma didn't do too good with Cisco webex call quality nor taking power from an industrial-grade surge strip that I've used with other VOIP adapters. I had to switch to Vonage.

They don't think it be like it is, but it do.

I bought mine in 2011 or so. Much cheaper than a land line at only $3 or $4 a month. Great quality calls and good features. Go for it.

Been an OOMA user since 2004 and still have all the original equipment. Other than a simple issue with setting it up, it has worked flawlessly all this time and has long paid for itself. If you have a steady internet connection, look no further, this is what you want.

I went Callcentric with a Cisco SPA112 box. I pay about $3.50 a month. The phone is just a backup because I have spotty cell reception at home.

I have been using MagicJack for years.

They went up on price. They are now $89 for three years they used to be $99 for 5 years.

They tend to drop calls after 30 to 40 minutes.

99 percent of my calls are shorter than that.

Can't beat the price. Ass long as your internet connection is clean so are the calls.

I had the same deal: Wife didn't want to drop the LL. So I bought an Obi ATA and ported our number over to CallCentric.

By going with the Obi ATA all our phones work exactly the same as when we were on at&t.

And with CC's call screening our telespam has dropped by about an order of magnitude or better.

I have had Ooma for my home office for 4 years. Works great, the only issue is one of my clients can’t get through, actually always goes to some Verizon error message which is odd. I have about 10 contacts at that location, all have the same issue. Other than that I have been very happy.

I use the premier service for the extra features. Love having my voicemails emailed to me, great for when I am out of the office. It also automatically forwards to my cell when internet or power is out.

I set one up for a guy quite a few years ago and he loves it.

He is the type of guy that can't/don't understand ANYTHING "tech" related. I get calls from him several times a month for anything and everything tech related.

Knock on wood....In all the years he has had it, I have never once gotten a call from him about issues with the phone.
