It's amazing how quickly an accident can happen and no time to take evasive action. I personally practice the Smith System of defensive driving, but when something like this happens you'd better just hope the luck of the draw is on your side.
In this video it's fortunate no one was seriously hurt or killed. The kids in the school bus were all fine too. Kudos to the bus driver for her actions. This happened in OKC, I drive this road all the time. As they say, stuff happens.
Oklahoma City Police responded this week to a school bus crash at Memorial Road and Santa Fe Ave.
None of the 19 Edmond North and Santa Fe High School students were injured, according to Oklahoma City Police, who were notified of the collision at 3:55 p.m. Wednesday.
The students were on their way to after-school programs, said Officer Travis Vernier, Oklahoma City Police spokesman.
Oklahoma City Police Sgt. Gary Knight said the school bus did not appear to be damaged. One of three vehicles involved in the crash was upside down.
Driver LaDonna Keller, 46, was driving a black 2008 Ford F-150 south on Santa Fe Ave. while Teri Delrosario, 51, was headed north on Santa Fe in a beige 2014 Volkswagen Jetta, Vernier described the sequence of events. Keller’s pick-up truck crossed the left of center yellow line and hit the Volkswagen head-on.
“That caused the pick-up truck to flip onto it’s top and as it skidded, it actually rotated 180 degrees so that the school bus impacted its tailgate,” Vernier said. “And the Jetta was actually pushed off to the side of the road. It did not make contact with the school bus.”
Three people including a front-seat female passenger in the Volkswagen are expected to survive critical injuries after their emergency admission to OU Medical Center, Oklahoma City. School bus driver Deborah Gomez, 56, was not injured.
Oklahoma City Police have not determined why the truck driven by Keller crossed left of center, Vernier said.
A statement was released by Edmond Public Schools saying, “The students who were on board bus #304 which was involved in a crash near Memorial Rd. & N. Santa Fe Ave have been picked up by other buses and taken back to their respective schools. The bus was carrying about 20 students from ENHS and SFHS who attend Francis Tuttle. We are grateful to report that no students were injured.”

Wow! I’ll bet the driver of the black pickup was texting! People never learn!

Accidents can happen fast especially when the other car is coming at you from the opposite direction.
The care going in the school bus' direction looked like it tried to veer away. It sure ruined their day.
"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

What slid across the hood of the school bus at 18 seconds?

It may have been part of the bus's mirror, maybe the bottom of a double-panel mirror.

Notice the hand waving from under the pickup at the 1:11 mark?

You can see debris flying up the entire time the truck is sliding towards the bus, so whatever that was.

Probably the truck driver's cellphone.

Or screwing with the in-dash nav/hi-fi/distraction center.
That was a hell of a crash. God bless those folks who stopped to try to help.

Yeah, you can hear the bus getting hit. Amazing how fast that all went down.

Apparently some "reporter" didn't watch the part where the truck hit the bus bumper.

The reporter was referring to the Jetta.

It appears the driver of the Jetta was ejected by the way the bystanders are acting.

The driver of that car must have had a pocket full of rabbits feet. Getting hit on the drivers side with a 6000 pound truck at 50 mph seems a sure way to ruin your week.

Same thing happened to my dad. Kid in a big pickup came into oncoming traffic and hit him head on. Messed him up bad, shattered his femur. He was in the hospital in intensive care for 4 months. Screwed his leg up for life. Kid had no remorse.

At least the driver avoided a head-on collision.

It "crashed" but was not "damaged"? Extremely poor reporting.
