Homeland Security claims DJI drones are spying for China
It released a memo detailing what it believes to be DJI’s main targets.

"Part of the memo focuses on targets that the LA ICE office believes to be of interest to DJI. "DJI's criteria for selecting accounts to target appears to focus on the account holder's ability to disrupt critical infrastructure," it said. The memo goes on to say that DJI is particularly interested in infrastructure like railroads and utilities, companies that provide drinking water as well as weapon storage facilities. The LA ICE office concludes that it, "assesses with high confidence the critical infrastructure and law enforcement entities using DJI systems are collecting sensitive intelligence that the Chinese government could use to conduct physical or cyber attacks against the United States and its population."........

rsboloDJI is probably the biggest producers of consumer video drones on the market. They have models that run the gamut from entry level to professional camera drones.

You can't truly call yourself "peaceful" unless you are capable of great violence. If you're not capable of great violence, you're not peaceful, you're harmless.

DJI makes affordable drones with very good 4K video and good flying capabilities. They are a China based company.

That's DJIA you are thinking of. As far as I know they don't make drones though.

So that explains why my drone keeps flying off over the water treatment plant, ignoring my commands to return...

gearhoundsWe should be more worried by cell phones made in China than any intelligence drones flying around the park might garner.

Black92LXIf it is electronic and made in China it is either spying on us or can be made to spy on us.
I have no doubt everything they sell us has some sort of backdoor access. If they aren’t using it now they certainly will be if things break bad.

bigdealHow about this for a bit of tinfoil hattery. Huawei is way ahead in R&D for the up and coming 5G data comm evolution. The US government is not pleased with this reality. As such, the US government laid the groundwork for Google to withdraw their software and support for Huawei products, effectively crippling that sector of the Chinese tech industry. Now Homeland Security is piling on by singling out DJI, another wildly successful Chinese tech company, to further damage the Chinese tech sector. And is it coincidence that all of this is occurring while a trade war with China is raging?
Put this in the category of "things that make you go hmmmmmm."

Google covers every square inch including all of the NFZ’s. If you look into the corner of a google map it tells you when it was taken everything is 2019 unless you do a street view. Way more scary than the typical places drone users are taking their drones. I don’t like any of it but google maps is way more intrusive.
