Mac users - opinions on CleanmyMac X
I have a MacBook Pro and I am considering adding some sort of protection. Anyone have experience with CleanmyMac. Know they are based in Ukraine and that concerns me a bit but do like the idea that they are Mac centric. Other suggestions for antivirus that works well on Macs?

I’m of the opinion that apps like CleanMyMac are a waste of money.

Just keep your software up-to-date and don’t do foolish things like click on suspicious links sent by people you don’t know.

I've been using it for several years and feel like it is the only legitimate tool to keep things cleaned up and running smooth. I got it more for keeping things running well, it has anti-virus too but it is basic but enough for me as Macs aren't as vulnerable. I had concerns at first about tools like this for Macs but have read enough reviews to start using it when I did and it seems the best at what it is made for.

I'm a long time mac user (use windows also).
I ran into a strange creeping corruption issue connected with gmail on one of our Macbook Pros a few months ago. There was plenty of free space on the drive but it got smaller and smaller daily.
Never seen it before and I tried CleanmyMac X as a last resort and it worked. It wasn't malware or a trojan, but one of those odd gmail things that happen when the mailbox size grows large.
Gmail does not like that and could not fix itself-

I had to completely rebuild my Mac hard drive after installing this software (many years ago).

In general, the software like this performs functions through scripts that dump a lot of unnecessary stuff.

I tried it, I didn’t like it, and I couldn’t uninstall it completely. Therefore, a full drive rebuild.

Clam XAV for anti virus.
Tech Tool Pro for utilities.

I run it on my MacBook Pro but onto my we Mac. I don’t think it is worth the price. I’m looking at a new MacBook Pro but won’t be adding it.

I’ve been a Mac user since 1996. I’ve never found a use for this type of software. Back in the early days of OSX, prior to Lion (10.5), CleanMyMac was a simple way to run some maintenance related Cron jobs. After 10.5 (or so), these Cron jobs are automatic in the OS. You can basically accomplish everything that CMM does by just leaving your Mac on overnight every so often.l

As for antivirus, the best antivirus is practicing good digital hygiene and having a robust 3-2-1 backup schema.
