lumbering.buffaloLaptop Hardware Gurus Step Inside
I will be replacing my 10 year old Windows 10 laptop when Office 2010 goes end-of-life. I'm thinking of buying refurbished, however, most laptops today come with internal batteries. If I get one where the battery goes toes up can the battery be replaced easily (similar to replacing a battery in your iPhone)? If so, what does this usually run (ballpark)? Thanks.

P250UA5All of our company laptops are Dell (Latitude series typically). Very easy battery replacement, occasionally requiring removing the bottom shell/cover to access (just a screw & connector to remove once that's done).
Same with hard drives & RAM, easy swaps. We actually ordered a batch downgraded (500GB platter drives & 4GB RAM) so we could get them quicker & upgraded them to SSD & added RAM in house.

lumbering.buffaloThanks folks. Your answers plus YouTube got me what I needed to know. Dells look easier to work on than HP.

bigdealSo long as you stay with Dell or Lenovo business class laptops you should be fine. I personally wouldn't touch a HP laptop with a ten foot pole.

That's funny as I wouldn't touch a Lenovo business class laptop with a ten foot pole. Too many seem to have a mind of their own.

We had 1 Lenovo desktop that was provided with a piece of equipment. It started having issues & was a pain to troubleshoot (probably in part to us being all-in on Dell). We ended up replacing it with a Dell Optiplex (and the vendor that originally supplied it has dropped Lenovo for Dell as well).

fvyellowbirdI replaced the battery on my 6 year old Toshiba a couple of months ago, wasn’t too bad. Certainly something that anyone reasonably handy can do.
