My understanding is that this population of monkeys has been conditioned to being fed by tourists. With the Corona virus and the travel bans, fewer tourists are visiting this town and the monkeys are starting to go hungry, which likely led to this brawl. It's not too far a stretch to imagine humans, under a similar shortage, behaving similarly. Link to original video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=22JgHBb-0dg

Not far at all and I've been telling friends that were on the fence about gun ownership that a food riot could happen. Stores are getting cleaned out of food right now. I honestly think it's inevitable. I'd rather be hated for who I am than loved for who I'm not.

Like filming stupid shit here, it’s all fun until a monkey gang eats your face off. Be sure to film that too. You only have integrity once. - imprezaguy02

They don’t ever have to worry about starving there. There appears to be an abundance of tender monkey meat to eat if the SHTF. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The price of liberty and even of common humanity is eternal vigilance

After watching the video, Planet of the Apes was the second thought that came to me. My first thought however, was how, despite man's many technological achievements and our push towards civility, our primal instincts, our baser instincts, lie just below the surface...and given a triggering event such as a lack of food or basic necessities, is only all too ready to erupt as we revert to our true nature. Years ago, as a young boy, my family grew up with our family black lab, Toby, who also served as my Dad's enthusiastic hunting companion. Toby lived to both point and retrieve...but he also willingly served to pull our family sled around the neighborhood with my siblings and myself in it during our snowy Winters. Several years later we moved out of state, and our move took us from living in the outskirts of town to true country style living in which we lived in farm country, more than a mile from the nearest blacktop road and all the kids in the area had to walk a mile or more to the only designated point on the dirt road that the school bus would pick us up and drop us off. Much of our home's property was rolling and treed and a small stream cut through a portion of it. In those days and times dogs didn't live inside, and were either tied up outside or allowed to roam free. It was common for neighborhood dogs to roam miles from property to property and one smaller mutt, Jake, would make the rounds, stopping in to smile and say hello, wait for a few moments to be petted, and if he got lucky, maybe even a small snack, before happily going on his way to visit others. One day, several of the 'neighborhood' dogs met up on our property. The largest was a St. Bernard named Tosha, along with Toby, and they immediately started to get excited, pushing against each other, with the furry pack meandering on our land. Jake arrived in his normal happy-go-lucky way, and seemed happy to see his "buddies" hanging out and immediately trotted up to join the pack, which they seemed to allow...at first...but then a frightening thing happened. It was like an unspoken word had been communicated between the pack of 6 or 7 dogs, and Jake, as the smallest dog in the pack, was no longer welcomed. In one sudden shocking moment, as if a switch had been thrown, the pack turned on Jake. Tufts of fur and skin flew, and several times Jake was even tossed into the air, as he howled in shock and pain. I was playing outside and when the fight broke out I yelled at the dogs and threw sticks and stones, but the pack ignored me as they continued their attack. The few times Jake landed on his feet he tried to run but the pack easily stayed with him so the savage attack drifted over many yards towards our stream. I wasn't allowed to carry my BB gun or even touch it without my Dad around, but I ran back to the house and grabbed it and pumped it while I ran towards the pack, but it was too late. Jake had been torn apart and his lifeless body had literally been gutted and left drifting in the stream. With the frenzied attack over the pack seemed satiated, and they disbanded. Toby looked at me with that look that dogs give when they know they did something wrong and are in trouble. Watching that monkey brawl video brings back memories of that pack attack...and man's own reversion to his baser instincts when circumstances allow.

Ehhhhh. I saw a bunch of monkeys used to getting fed. “The urge to save humanity is almost always only a false-face for the urge to rule it.”—H.L. Mencken

Just as humans, especially those in the U.S., are used to getting fed and used to shelter, and used to both basic necessities as well as creature comforts...so what happens when those things are no longer readily purchased?

Wait, what? |
Agreed- the humans (or slightly sub-humans) are SUPPOSED to know better; but we're all primates when you get right down to it and not nearly enough time has passed during evolution to work aggression out of the genetic code. “Remember to get vaccinated or a vaccinated person might get sick from a virus they got vaccinated against because you’re not vaccinated.” - author unknown

Maybe. Looked to me like the same number of living monkeys after, as before.
