Is anyone familiar with Newark Airport?
In three weeks we're making an outbound international connection on United, I've got a few questions about getting from one terminal to another.

If you can help, send a note to the address in my profile. Thanks!

I've flown in and out of EWR, but it was on Mohawk Airlines 50+ years ago when took basic at Ft Dix.

Apologies in advance:

But it’s been a long time, but I remember three terminals A, B and C. I spent most of all my travels out of A terminal. I never flew internationally out of EWR.

I believe there’s a bus between the terminals or you could walk it if you need to exercise.

I would think maybe there is an international terminal somewhere? That’s typical for most large airports.

My last time there was September 1982.

I remember waving at the Big Green Lady as we sucked gear and flaps.

Theres a monorail between terminals. All international flights are at Terminal B.
Domestic United flights are at Terminal C.

I used to fly in and out of Newark occasionally years ago, and remember it as the worst airport I had to deal with. There is a tram that spans the terminals, though its reliability used to be highly questionable.

Use the AirTrain between terminals. They have staff and monitors showing which track goes where and when.
If you arrive in Newark and transfer out without wanting to venture out of the airport for whatever reason, you'll be just fine.

Lived in NJ for 13 years. Weekly trips to EWR for international flights. Never had a problem going from International to United terminal. Monorail is well run and easy to spot anywhere in the terminals.

Are you sure you have to switch terminals? Terminal C covers a lot of real estate & gates. If staying on UAL could easily come in C & leave C.

If possible, always better to stay inside security during a transfer. If the line isn’t long ask at customer service or any gate agent at a quiet gate.

Thanks for all the replies. My main concern is getting from B to C or C to B in three weeks. We're good with walking if that's doable. We're even better with staying in the same terminal. We're flying in from Chicago and connecting to Tel Aviv with plenty of time.

It appears taking the Air Train means leaving the secure area, not gonna do it. From Sourdough's link, United offers a shuttle bus from B to C but not from C to B.

If B to C (or C to B) is walkable, our problem is solved.

We were accidentally invited to the secret restaurant they have, we didn't go. It's behind one of the Italian joints, I think Abruzzo

I inquired if any of the restaurants had Carpaccio , next thing I know several management type dudes showed up and escorted us to the "secret" place

EWR has three terminals: Terminal A, B, and C. Find the location of your airlines here.

There are three ways of transferring between terminals:

AirTrain
Shuttle bus (Star Alliance Connections)
Walk
Take the AirTrain

The AirTrain system operates between all passenger terminals. For journeys between terminals, it’s free.

To make your connection, follow signs for AirTrain. You will need to clear through TSA security once you arrive in your departure terminal. Real-time TSA wait times are available here.

To learn more about the AirTrain system, click here.

For international arriving passengers, you must claim all checked bags at Customs and recheck with your departing airline, even if the bags are checked to your final destination!

United Airlines Shuttle Bus

Image - Connecting Flights
Between Terminals (United Airlines Connections)

United Airlines Operates a shuttle bus between Terminals A and C from 5:00 am to 10:00 pm. In addition, United operates a one-way shuttle bus connecting Terminal A to Terminal B and Terminal C to Terminal B between the hours of 10:00 am and 10:00 pm (i.e., customers in Terminal B cannot use the shuttle bus to go to Terminals A and C). This service is free and you will not have to go through TSA security again. The shuttle bus is available at gate A28, B67, and C70 as illustrated in the image above. Please note this shuttle is operated at the sole responsibility of United Airlines and is subject to modification at their discretion.

I see from C to B between 10 & 10 P.M., I’ve done it. With security lines, try to stay inside. You will likely come in C, then go out of B.

They just don’t let you go from B to C, without doing security again, after international.

This is good information. I have had 2 international transfers in EWR Terminal C in the last 2 months.
Houston-Newark, arrive terminal C, flights to Europe departing Terminal C.

Another thing you can do is check today’s flight(or corresponding day of scheduled flight) in the UAL app, check the gate. Of course your particular flight weeks from now will be a different gate, likely, but you’ll get an idea.

For the most part one would ‘prefer’ an hour or so between flights, a bit more if you expect a 2nd dance with TSA or a major terminal change.

Regardless of the airline you fly, plenty of info on the airline’s app. I’d have it on your phone, at least be familiar enough to find your gates, times, & any delay info.

Besides that, one can usually text domestically through it, no internet purchase required.

Just checked, for today both are in Terminal C. Hooray!

Yes, I have the United app, lots of good info. But I could not find anything on walking between terminals. It looks easy, but I'm hoping we stay in C the whole time. C also has United's Polaris Lounge.

Coming home three weeks later we clear Customs at ORD, we have Global Entry and always breeze through.

I've been to terminal C 3 times in the last 3 months picking up family members. Easy to get around, plenty of people you can ask for directions. When I went through customs from a trip from Europe they were very friendly and polite.

Flown out of EWR for three international flights. Cheaper than flying out of Philly, at least to Iceland and Italy.

Never had any issues, but these weren't connections, just departures.

Definitely not the nicest airport I've ever been too, but it didn't give me "punt a puppy out a window" feelings like O'Hare does.
