None of it was shielded.

Same here, just a lot less than you've pulled. The vast, vast majority of it 5e. Didn't even bother pulling 6 in my own home. Only place I'd even pull 6 is my TV and where my receiver is. Not sure if we have gig speed yet at my house and I can watch 4k at current speed, sigforum and email loads quickly.

FenderBender, where did you hear that CAT6 was not subject to external power interference?

The additional twisting on cat6 reduces EMI, it does not eliminate it completely. Where there is higher potential for EMI you can use STP, but it's more expensive, heavier, and requires bonding.

As well as the internal inter-pair shielding. thus, passing by some power shouldn't have that kind of effect unless it's some pretty high unshielded voltage.

now my real question is, if you're getting the correct speed over wifi, why bother?

I’ve pulled hundreds of thousands of feet of cat6 in my career including termination/punch down. None of it was shielded. Even 120v circuits can cause crosstalk and bandwidth reductions.

In that case, you're fully aware of the plastic cross in the center of the cable which breaks up the pairs to avoid cross talk within the cable.

Damn! I envy that speed. Makes my 100mb down look absolutely sad. Frown

Plastic is not an electrical shield. What that core does is maintain mechanical structure.

The plastic core is there to reduce crosstalk between the pairs in the cable and to add physical strength. It does nothing to prevent crosstalk from outside sources.

"Crosstalk" from outside sources is not crosstalk. It's just plain noise/interference.

There was a definite "pinch" in the cable that I didn't see before hidden in the wall. I'm assuming that threw it all out of whack.
