dynoratI used to think it was all myth, then in my twenties I stepped in some in mid-Michigan, and now I believe.
I live in an area with lots of springs, and while it certainly isn't common, it does occur, sometimes from rain and seasonal thawing of poorly drained areas, and often where there are springs.
I had a video once of a trench I dug with a backhoe showing water coming up out of the ground and floating sand up with it.
Not sure about the ROUs.

flashguyI had to look up ROUS. The only thing I could figure was Rodent Of Unusual Size, some creature in the movie The Princess Bride (which I have not seen). Was that the reference?
