bendableMed. large to large Styrofoam shipping coolers
I know some people that get meat and meds shipped three times a year.
They are all old and keep saving them up , " just in case" .
(Roll eyes)
Over a four year period they have not found anyone that can use them for any dam thing.
So ,
I come to the vast wealth of knowledge, ( you)
For helpful insight and suggestions.
Is there any known reason not to fill up the landfill with these coolers ?
The meals on wheels people does not want them because they are not considered to be cleanable or sanitizable.
Thank you in advance for any attention you choose to give this.

kkinaAll I can say is I feel your concern. I have noticed the industry has been moving to recyclable foam insulation, and I think that will be the long term solution.

BigSwedeI am no help
We never found a use for them until our daughter went off to college about 1.5 hours away. My wife's condition for buying her groceries was she had to come home to get them. About twice a month, she gets to see her
The cheap Styrofoam coolers keep the cold and frozen stuff cold

Mustang-PaPaOur cat rescue uses them in the winter time to make shelters for outdoor feral/wild cats.
Try calling around and see if your locals can use them.
Ours ask for them then make them available for anyone needing them.

mleeI use them to store ammo in our garage. I throw some reusable desiccant packs in with the ammo. Only issue is they get pretty heavy if you fill them full. And every once in a while my wife notices they have multiplied......

I came to suggest exactly this. Our county cat rescue makes use of them also.
Good luck!

GeorgeairI use them to send leftovers with my kids and niece after big family gatherings. Easy for them and us since I don't want them back.

tatortoddBack when I lived in Alaska, a handful of times per year we'd go fishing for halibut and salmon on a charter boat. Ideally (i.e. we actually caught something), at the end of the fishing trip:
the deckhands would fillet the fish
they would take the fillet fish to the flash freezer place where it'd be vacuum sealed in portions and frozen
we'd go to our hotel, dinner, etc. and pick-up the frozen, vacuum sealed fish in the morning. The fish would be in a shipping box with styrofoam insulation.
I plead the 5th as to how long I stored those shipping boxes with styrofoam insulation, and the quantity I stored. Let's just say, more than 1 and I moved Alaska -> Canada -> Houston with them.
Ultimately, I sent the box and styrofoam to the recycler.

casWhen I have instances to throw out lots of garbage, maybe some items that normally the regular trash guys wouldn't pick up.
I'd leave one of those coolers, full of ice, with a six pack in it. Especially in the summer.
I'd come home, stuff all gone, my neighbor's cans are still out in the street. Mine would be back over the fence, upright with the lids on.

Chris42Wife used to ship a bunch of small/medium sized stuff all over the country. I would take such foam containers to my bandsaw and cut them into 1” cubes. She used that for filling the boxes and padding the product. Worked well and was light. Problem was the bandsaw created a lot of dust from cutting the boxes. It was also positively charged, so it sticks to everything. Eventually it comes off.
