Louisville Can Opener
Yesterday, was the first day of at least a two-month shutdown of I-65 from the Ohio River Bridges to the Watterson X-Way (I-264), a total distance of 5 miles. This was necessitated by repair requirements for the various surface streets bridges of I-65.

Traffic is always a mess in the downtown metro area at best, and detours around the construction won’t help matters.

The “Louisville Can Opener” intersection underpass at 3rd and Eastern Pkwy at the University of Louisville has been given that moniker for the obvious reason. For those of us in Louisville KY, this is a well-known phenomenon. Even local truck drivers have a problem.

It claimed at least 4 victims on Monday, so how many more during this next couple of months only time will tell.

Yup. So far, 36 homicides this year, and still counting. Now that it’s warmed up, we are getting a homicide every 2 or 3 days.

We are also having local Metro government races this November. Just went through the “non-partisan” Mayoral primary, and the top 2 finalists are the current Democrat mayor and his opponent is a Democrat Metro Council member.

Louisville has always been the very blue spot in Kentucky, with all the attendant problems. A Democrat mayor and Metro council is always inevitable.

Downtown has deteriorated so much it's pathetic. But we have bike lanes. And they're turning the downtown one way streets into two-way in hopes that the traffic jams and accidents will get people out of their cars and into local businesses.

As to the Louisville/Metro PD, it has been a parody of a law enforcement agency for years, though there are some who try their best. A couple of things that come immediately to mind:

1. the chief caught lying on the witness stand, claiming she had no body cam on when another officer's body cam showed her wearing one (resulting in a press conference where she said regarding her perjury, "What am I supposed to do, discipline myself?")

2. the ongoing sexual harrassment suits and claims, including arising out of a pool party for the Domestic Violence Unit, with sex crimes detectives present (later including other claims of harrassment against the leader of the initial investigation, and recent refusals of the department to cooperate with OIG).

Naked. At lest they knew what he was packing.

When the female Police Chief of Atlanta failed and resigned, Louisville hired her.

Mayor Greenberg was nearly assassinated during the campaign. Someone interrupted a meeting at his campaign HQ and shot at. Put a hole in his sweater.

My daughter lives on the western edge, so I go visit once in a while. I usually don't carry a backup gun, but I do in L-ville.
