This. I am so sick of it EVERYWHERE. It is perhaps the single most intrusive item in society. After years having a smartphone, I dumped it and switched to a basic "dumb" phone a couple of months ago. No data, turned wi fi off. Just texting and voice calls. No more fucking Google. And some friends thought I was odd doing this. I have accepted the fact that people have to instagram their lives. The self absorbed narcissist mentality is the result of the lower IQ, and is very much a part of our society now. When I go out to eat, I have accepted that some fucking twit will be instagramming the whole meal. It’s poor manners, and a blatant display of ignorance. I do appreciate the few restaurants that do not allow cell usage. El Gaucho in Tacoma is a great example. Pull out your phone and in short order a staff member will ask you to take your call outside, or remind you that texting/photographing your food is inappropriate behavior. I get irritated by the ones that use the phone when driving. What happened to driving? It used to be something that people would pride themselves on. Other people would look up to great drivers. Now, it’s an office/theatre/dining room on wheels. As many here have already said, the pinnacle of my fury is seeing a video that some piece if shit took, when someone was hurt or in distress. Instead of helping the person in need, they fucking film it. People with that mentality should be... Well I don’t know, should be better people. Maybe they should get an ass kicking. I think that most have never been in a situation of complete helplessness, and don’t realize what they’re doing. That goes back to the self absorbed narcissist, and we go round and round. This video sums up my feels about restaurants, perfectly. ***NSFW LANGUAGE*** The “lol” thread

Every once in while they get their just reward..... I worked with the local volunteer FD/EMS for years. One morning we had a wreck on our divided 4 lane high-way. Of course traffic was down to one lane and was backed up for quite a way. DOT had not arrived yet and I was helping a Deputy direct traffic. A woman came by with her cell phone out videoing the accident scene with both hands while driving with her knee. The Deputy looked and me said, "Oh, Hell No!!!" He walked to his car and left. He came back in about 10 minutes and was grinning from ear to ear....looked at me and said, "She won't put that shit again!" _________ Whether you think you can or you think you can't, you're right. I have never used the video recording on my phone. My handgun instructor used it once so I could practice some gun handling skills at home. I will take pictures once in a while.

Only thing for which I've ever used the videoing on my phone was to video my own golf swing. "America is at that awkward stage. I'm on the board of a local fire/EMS dept. Our people are not allowed to either take pictures or video anything while on the job. That doesn't stop the rubber neckers going by. How many times does a wreck occur near an accident? I'm sorry if I hurt you feelings when I called you stupid - I thought you already knew - Unknown ................................... That guy is my hero. We need to see this happening all over the world. You Know thOse PSAs which show the cops springing out of nowhere to ticket people who don't wear their seat belt, or arresting DUIs? Yeah, we need commercials like that playing on every channel, every hour of every day, only for these phone recording assholes: "You want a Picture? We'll get you UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL." (insert shot of police officer forcing the head of one of these phone assholes into a wrecked car) "TAKE A CLOSE LOOK! LOOK! YOU WANT A PICTURE? WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?! By the way, here's your ticket for being an asshole. Here's your court date. You must appear" (grabs phone asshole by the collar and pulls him close) "LEAVE THE PHONE AT HOME THAT DAY!!"

What should also be of concern is deceptiveness and those that may use the phone videos to stage an event falsely. Many have come to believe that what they see on the videos are truth, and indisputable evidence of real event. Posted online it can quickly spread like wildfire, truth or not. This can be a global event created by a fake video, and eventually if verified as being false, so much damage has already been done. Much of this is filtered here on Sigforum by para's mandate to verify sources prior to posting, eliminating much of the fake news line from being towed. Regards, Will G.

That's your prerogative. I have a smart phone with which I do a lot more than just make and receive phone calls. I find it exceedingly useful. But here's the thing: Just because I have a smart phone that gives me the ability to take videos, doesn't mean I have to be an idiot about it. This isn't about what phones people have--how technically advanced or feature-laden or whatever. It's about how they misuse those features. "America is at that awkward stage. Hell yes! I tried to teach my kids from when they first started going places alone that when the shit started not to finish their fries, not to gawk and damn well not to start filming but instead to get the heck our and gain distance ASAP. Don't know if they listened, but I still bring it up from time to time even as young adults. You only have integrity once. - imprezaguy02

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Your kids listen to more than you think. It is funny to hear them repeat things as adults that you said to them as kids.

And I find myself yet again on the other end of that spectrum. I'm usually getting my ass chewed (on the weekend especially) for not having my cellphone with me. When I do have it with me I never seem to even think about using it to video anything. My few video endeavors seem to revolve around my hound doing something silly or funny. To date I've taken 'one' selfie in my entire life, and that was with my dog. ----------------------------- Guns are awesome because they shoot solid lead freedom. Every man should have several guns. When I was a kid, I kept a nickel taped to the inside of my wallet, in case I needed to make a phone call. That's right. Livin' on the edge. Kids these days would shit themselves if they were without their electronic pacifier for five minutes. They'd need counseling and therapy. Can you say 'dependency'? The same could be said of any tool we have, perfect example, firearms. I’m happy to keep my smartphone, and guns, and use them with some sense. The “lol” thread

Oh, please. Pointing out the obvious is not a substitute for a valid argument. When you see thirty people whipping out guns at a traffic accident, you let me know.

Valid point as you’re making it. But... limiting Or revoking my use of my smartphone because a bunch of “softer than peeps” dumbasses don’t know how to properly behave with their electronic devices, shouldn’t be a burden I should have to bear. What is the ratio of cell phones to people in this country? Specifically smart phones as you’re speaking of? Over the age of 10, what, 80%? What’s the ratio of concealed and open carry people? 1/10 at best, probably not even that good. (A quick google search says that 3 million people carry concealed in the US. So less than 1/100.) So 30 dumbasses whip out a phone at a traffic accident. That’s out of 38 people passing by. That would be at best, 4 people who have a concealed weapon, and using the Washington Times stats, one third of a person with a concealed weapon. Now take into account that there is no law against filming everything. Brandishing a weapon is a crime. People who carry concealed most likely wish to keep that privilege. Comparing cell phones and guns at a traffic accident aren’t the same. It’s not a normal comparison. I’m trying to point out, that while I agree with your original post and most of these people can shove their phone so far up their ass they can taste it for all I care, saying we should remove their right to own a smartphone, isn’t much different than all the gun grabbers saying they need to disarm America. Oh, stick a sock in it. I can dream if I want. I can fantasize about things which aren't going to happen and I can express my frustrations as much as I damn well please in this place. Put away your whiteboard and marker. Ridiculous
