In the late 80s/early 90s, in my former work I recall a mid-80s model owned by a librarian. The only thing missing from the stereotype was her hair worn down, not up in a bun. We had fun wondering what she was like outside of the library, if you get my drift. ![]() Before marrying my brother and for some time after that, my sister-in-law had an '84 model. It had (per my brother, I only saw it a few times) the Z51 suspension, extra-firm over the already firm standard, pretty much racetrack only. I can only imagine what it rode like.

Trivia question: What is the only year there was no corvette model? "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown "The United States government is the largest criminal enterprise on earth." -rduckwor

1911-1952? But if restricted to "only," 1983.

Yes, 1983. The 1982 and prior Corvettes were made here in St. Louis. When they moved production to Bowling Green, Kentucky, the new plant wasn't ready in time for a 1983 model year. Unless you count this one: One-of-None 1983 Corvette “Well, there’s one,” Meier told them. “But it’s in the National Corvette Museum and it has never left Kentucky.” The one was the sole survivor of 43 pilot-build cars for what should have been the 1983 model year and the introduction of the Corvette’s fourth generation. The introduction was pushed to the 1984 model year and shortly thereafter, those 43 pre-production models were targeted for destruction. https://www.hemmings.com/stori...nniversary-corvette/ "Some things are apparent. Ahh... you're right... just looked it up. Corvette production moved from St. Louis to Bowling Green, Kentucky, in 1981. The last Corvette was produced in St. Louis on July 31, 1981. But, still, there was no 1983 model year. "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. I had The Complete Corvette just about memorized in my early teens. From my driver’s ed certificate: ![]() It’s even funnier now that our bone stock VW Jetta will out run the C4 from that year.

Thank you Very little ![]() |
All 82 were BG KY, had one for a year and traded it in, big mistake, actually found it doing some research. For that C4, keep an eye on the alternator, mine ate up two (had an 86) not the cars fault, cheap alternators from Autozone... Much preferred the 82 body style... Shitay picture but it's a scan from a polaroid taken in 1982... ![]()

I think the C3 is dead sexy, but I have no intention of owning another carbureted vehicle. Given a bottomless pocketbook, I'd have a C3 with modern suspension/brakes/engine/trans. Be careful when following the masses. Sometimes the M is silent.

I believe the 1982 C3s actually had the crossfire fuel injection used on the 1984 C4s.

The amperage draw from the injectors would not make the remainder of the electrical system happy. Usually it will get to operating range within 10 to 15 minutes at idle.
1952? In '83 they made a total of six complete road registered Corvettes. Best I had found, most (if not all) of them were V6 cars for emissions testing only. The most noteworthy example at Bowling Green was almost destroyed by a sinkhole. Executives were given a waiver to the evacuation order to just get this one car. Other 'Vettes, like the Mallet, weren't so lucky.

Thank you Very little ![]() |
That is correct, not really EFI, a hybrid between a carb and EFI.... called it Cross Fire Injection, only on the 82 and 84, and I guess it's in that lone 83 in Bowling Green.. ![]()

It is EFI. Throttle body fuel injection was common in the '80s. Multiport fuel injection is what everybody is familiar with now as it had been common for the last thirty years. It was two throttle body injector units mounted to a top plate of the crossfire manifold. Crossfire manifolds also made it to the 25th anniversary Trans-Am in '83. The good news was the TBI assembly was a common part also used on the Chevy Cavalier. I have two of the manifolds and an extra plate in storage.

So the folks at the Corvette museum just got it wrong? ![]()

Back, and to the left ![]() |
There were 61 83 'vettes built. They just didn't allow public sales. Chevy wasn't ready with the next generation car yet. A total of 61 serial numbered ’83 Corvettes were built. Of these, 18 were “prototypes” and the other 43 were “pilot-line” cars. So they're both right. ![]()
