As others have said verify the timing belt and water pump were done as said. Plenty of ways to do as mentioned. Even if it was a independent shop they should have some sort of record.

Very clean from the pictures. If you are anywhere interested I would pay your mechanic to look at it.
I would like to be closer to 8k but I am cheap like that. But with a solid review from your mechanic 9k is not unreasonable with as clean as the whole rig appears to be.

If I am not mistaken these utilize hardlines to the rear calipers which one needs to be very careful when removing to do a brake job. Not as forgiving as rubber lines for caliper removal.
And replacing the entire rear hardline is a bit of a pain.

Just to give you a numbers idea I looked at a 2007 Lexus LX470 (Land Cruiser) as clean as what you have showed and checked out by a Lexus specialist and said I would not find another as clean and services. It had 98k and I was willing to pay 22k 2 years ago and had no doubt it would go another 10+ years and 200k Miles.

Granted the Sequoia’s are not hand built to the extent the LCs are but with proper maintenance these Toyota’s will go for a very very long time.

I did my rear rotors and pads last year. Lines are rubber. I would have definitely remembered having to disconnect hard lines to get calipers off.

My wife had her timing belt job (the whole works normally done when the front end is off). Hers is still <90k but she wanted it done before trouble arose. She'll probably never make it to the second change, as infrequently as she drives it, which is another reason she did it proactively. Done at a good dealer and the $1300 price mentioned above sounds about right.

All this talk about timing belts (and chains) reminds me of my FJ-40. The Totota 2F engine (an I6) is timed with two big-ass gears (about 3/4" thick).

No I wasn't looking for one specifically. I drove past it a few times and thought that I'd finally stop and take a look. Did and it appeared clean so that got me interested.

Does the 4Runner come with 3rd row seating? That's key for us.

No, I am thinking Sequoia is built of the second generation of the Tundra chasis. Same running gear at least. The 4.7 is a very good engine. every 90k for the Timing belt and water pump or there abouts.
$9k seem's on the high side. But it is in there. I am like Black. I would prefer to be at $8k on it.

I don’t know how expensive timing belts are for these, but the ones I’ve bought were well under $100. I think at the time, $100 paid for the water pump too.
Maybe offer $9500 with new tires and timing belt, they eat the labor and get close to their asking price.

I’ve had a total of six 4Runners and know them quite well. Current one is an 07, V8 Limited 4x4. Im pretty sure there are some with a third row, but it’s tiny.. nothing like the room in a Seqoia. If the space is what your after, stick to the Seqoia or an older Land Cruiser..mid 2000’s once the V8 was put in them. That’ll be replacing my 4Runner eventually.

I'm going to call him on Monday and ask my wife to take it to the mechanic for an independent inspection on Tuesday.

Going to set aside the $1,300 for timing belt/water pump to be done and use that as some negotiating leverage.

If it checks out I will offer $7,500 and go up to $8,000 or $8,200. That way I would be less than $10,000 into it after new timing belt/water pump and tags.

I have not but I should.

Should I stay away from the dealerships and just stick with classifieds?

I need to browse Auto Trader now.

Don't drag your feet, if you do you'll miss it. I've had 4 lexus/toyo with that engine and they are bulletproof. Timing belt is no big deal this is a common engine and independents do tb/wp for $800-1000. That Seq has the well kept look. I drove an 02 Seq until I bought my 08 Ridgeline and never had any problems. 12/13 mpg towing/city 16/17 nighway. Buy it at $8k and that's a dime on the dollar vs new. Smile

The ONLY ding on that drive train is the mileage. They are gas suckers.
My TB/WP got replaced at 110,000 miles as did the serpentine belt. There were CHUNKS missing on the belt when it got replaced!!

That's a pretty clean Sequoia Ltd. Take 1k off the asking price to cover the TB/WP change and see if they bite on your offer.

Oh definitely!

I believe they are around $50k brand new. I know Toyota's will run for quite a while.

Yes, getting 17/18 on the highway isn't very efficient. Fortunately, we aren't going to be traveling too much with it. I already told my wife that with my work schedule, our days of driving back home to Chicago are probably getting fewer and far between. But even as a gas sucker, it would take quite some time before breaking even on buying a newer one. Even used ones are going for around $30k.

I would just add. Don't hurry and buy in haste. More mistakes have been made using that philosophy than any other.
Who knows how great this one is. There is always another one. And more often than not a better one is lurking around the next corner.

Absolutely. In a way, I'm kind of hoping someone else just buys the thing. Seller said he has 2 other people looking at it.

Edmond, turn on the stereo system with bass and listen for rattle. The JBL speaker are notorious for the foam causing sound problems. The way toyota designed it, you would have to replace them with an exact replacement ($450) not just some pioneers in the same size. The positive is that you can buy a foam repair kit on amazon for about 30 bucks. If you can take off a door panel and use a razor blade, all it costs you is time. I replaced the foam on one a few months back. Took me about 7 hours total, taking my time to make sure I did it right.

Who took the pictures? They are crisp and show detail. Door jambs bright and clean. Engine clean and look at the room. hitch appears unused, interior is extra bright - usually means garage kept non smoker. Looks like some service receipts are there, tires will be reasonable probably 18"s but maybe 17".

That is a nice truck. If you don't really need it then be nonchalant but if you are in need I'd suggest a sense of urgency because that truck has a lot going for it. A serious buyer will snag it.

A little tidbit that always influences my decision is if seller has both remotes. I take yes as meaning an extra level of care, provided everything else agrees. just a little checkmark on the plus side. In my eyes that Seq has the look of one that has been babied and the pictures are clear enough that it's hard to be tricky.

Is it AWD or RWD? Mine was rwd and I put a set of Michelin LTXs. Rode/drove great.

I would expect him to say that. Thing is, we don't NEED this vehicle, but I saw it as a target of opportunity.

Going to have the wife take it to the mechanic on Tuesday if I can get an appointment.
