iPhone as intercom system? Login/Join

So we bought a nice goldwing but intercom does not work. I recently posted about Sena products but I am trying to make it work on the cheap instead. I bought $15 headphones with a mic, took them apart, and put inside a helmet. Works decent.

Now, trying to figure out a way how to connect the two? We can easily simply call each other while riding but there has to be a better way? I looked at several off the grid apps but none have phone call options. I tried walkie talkie apps, but it's not safe to mess with the phone while riding.

Is there a way to connect two headsets into one iPhone and communicate like that without using network? Or even using network? I hope I am making sense of what I am trying to do.

Grabbing my popcorn. A similar issue has come up for me. Have an impromptu driving club (cars not bikes) started. Since there is only one other member we just call each other. I wonder about in the future with more people if there is a way to simply have an open channel were we could all talk without having to key a mic. We drive some pretty gnarly country roads and keying a mic would not be ideal.

Find a Goldwing forum and ask about repairing or replacing there? That would be where I'd start. There may be a know issue...

Why use a phone? Talk battery on your plain old telephone is 48 volts DC. You can talk on much less. Basically, all you need is a two wire circuit with positive and negative sides between the two headsets. A couple of headphone jacks for your headsets with a two wire circuit between them and a battery source between them ought to do the trick. As it’s a motorcycle with an electrical system, I’d think there should be a way to safely branch off a circuit that’s not powered when the engine is off.

Have you tried troubleshooting the existing intercom? It’s probably something similar to what I described above.

Get a couple of these with headsets, set them up for VOX, and talk away. If you ever ride with a larger group, they can set up the same way and join the conversation too.

Note, you do need a license to talk on most of the frequencies offered, so you would need to to do some research there. The radios themselves are great for the price though.

"Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy."
"I did," said Ford, "it is."
"So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?"
"It honestly doesn't occur to them. They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates the government they want."
"You mean they actually vote for the lizards."
"Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course."
"But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?"
"Because if they didn't vote for a lizard, then the wrong lizard might get in."
