And I use the term "pup" loosely...at 70 pounds Big Grin...almost twice the size of my former bordercollie...

My dog story...

Meet "Jasper" (my daughters both said he he reminded them of Dana Perino's dog...well maybe, he is brown and a dog Big Grin)...vet said lab mix...

Jasper was a "stray" in with three others running our neighborhood for a week or so creating mischief with the garbage can knocking over thing and other rude dog stuff...of all the "gang of four"...he was different...he had a collar and tag...

So early on Wednesday morning while on my daily walk, I was able to get him close enough to grasp the collar (the other three hightailed it) and read the tag hoping for a contact number (it just had the 6 digit Tennessee Dept Of Health number...

I coaxed him to follow me home and through the backyard gate until I could use the number on the tag to track down the owner...Cleveland Animal Control gave me a name and address (they had no phone number) of the owner, who lived about a mile away. I found out he belonged to a 19 year old kid (he was give the dog as a cute little puppy about 14 months ago) who was staying with a family friend (a 77 year old widow) who was now burdened with the dog's care...later that morning I was able to meet with owner who after some soul searching and begging from the lady...agreed to let me take him in...

I took him to the vet Wednesday to have him looked over (I knew he had worms)...he also tested positive for heart worms and my vet felt he would respond well to the 12 month "slow kill" heart worm treatment followed by the standard monthly pill...wormed and all shots updated...

Heart worms are epidemic here and predicted to get worse...

There is a saying "sometimes the right dog finds you rather than you finding the right dog"...I really time will prove this true in this case Smile

He will have to learn a few manners and "lifestyle" changes...plus that large "set" he is probably so proud of will going away in the future Big Grin...

He's a handsome fellow. He looks like he has some Vizsla mixed in with the Labrador. Congrats!

Judging by his expression in the second photo, he suspects that he is not 100% welcome in your home. Roll Eyes

Nice looking dog. Seems to be making himself at home.
Just as a precaution, maybe get something in writing from the former owner regarding transfer of ownership.
Otherwise maybe talk to the folks at animal control for suggestions to prevent a problem down the road.

For a stray he appears to be fairly well fed. He is handsome and seems to be happy. Good job.
