konata88Rock pickers?
Looking for a small, lightweight tool with a chisel and pointy end, like a pickaxe.
Looking for something that is:
1. less than 12" in length
2. prefer less than 20oz in weight (but flexible)
3. strong, forged steel (not chicom). USA / EU / Japan made preferred. Decent, familiar brand (again, no fly by night chicom brands).
I checked Estwing but nothing small / light enough.

fischtown7You don't need an Ann Margaret Pin up poster to go with that do you?

trapper189Look at an Estwing chipping welding hammer.
Estwing has a number of 13oz rock hammers, but they are hammer face and pick combos. Using a chisel usually involves placing the sharp end of the chisel on the material to be chiseled and beating the other end with a hammer. It gives much more control over what’s being chiseled, but if you want to take a swing at a different method…

Close but no cigar. I saw that but it has a hammer face on one end. Need it be more like a chisel.

Thanks. Looked it up. Very close but need the chisel like end to be rotated 90 degrees. But otherwise, form, size, weight are in the right ballpark.

Actually for the wife so I hope not. I could use it though.

ag111gaMaybe you should look for a bricklayer's/mason's hammer instead.

Thanks. Yea, saw that. It's the right function but it's too long (want < 12") and too heavy (could be manageable but prefer < 20oz, closer to 1lb if possible). Weight is a little flexible but definitely want something shorter, less than 12"

I wonder if this may be the way we have to go. Chisel end on one side and then drill a hole on the other side to allow for the bits for the welding / chipping hammer.

ag111gaIt'll probably not be easy to drill, as I imagine it's hardened.
Than there is this one, but it's not 90 degrees like you wanted.

konata88Thanks! Nice find!
A little longer than preferred but maybe close enough. If no other alternatives, may be worth checking out. Will ask the wife.
ETA: saw the second link. Also may be a good choice. Just need to confirm not made in chicom. Thanks!

bigpond73I just edited my post too, and added another link, might work also.
ETA: You're welcome. Glad you saw the other link also. Hope one or the other works out. Those retailers also had other models you might look at, but those were what I gathered from your description that you wanted.

Thanks - sounds like the tool I'm looking for is called a pick mattock.
This is basically what I'm looking for, perhaps a bit smaller, but made in USA/EU/Japan. This one sounds like it's not very robustly made, despite being presumably tempered, forged. And definitely chicom. One of the review pics - bent the adze part?
