As you make it to the 80's, you don't heal as well and loose your leg strength. Falling down from standing, and falling while doing 15 MPH, is a big difference. Bones get frail if you don't get enough vitamin K either by eating sauerkraut or taking the supplement. The calcium leaves your bones and is deposited in the lying of your arteries.

A hip repair or joint repair is to be avoided as you get older unless you want to play the odds of something going wrong.

Maybe a golf cart with slicks.

Yes, we discussed that and concluded that it's overkill. She just wants something to cruise the neighborhood (slowly), never leaving our gated community. Speed limits in all the sub-developments are 15 mph, and the furthest point from our house is maybe 1.5 miles, so low speed, limited range, will be good.

Also, looking at cost. This new Segway model, due to start shipping mid-week, has an introductory price of $299. A decent e-bike from a known manufacturer with good parts availability would cost a heck of a lot more than that, and have capabilities that she would never need or use.

You think you don't want to go faster than 10 mph until you ride one a couple of times and etc. The Segway product is good quality but lacks features to make riding the scooter fun and comfortable. pneumatic tires and suspension, make it so every little bump doesn't jar your entire body.

I'd suggest renting one to see if she likes it, and what features she wants. If I remember correctly you live in/near Orlando. Lyme or Byrd rent them by the hour just download the app. Or www.cloudofgoods.com rents them, scroll down past the old folks scooters, Or going to a store where you can ride one.
