Too soon old, too late smart |
My wife was contacted by a woman she went to school with years ago. She was telling my wife about a grant program sponsored by the SBA to help the retired, semi-retired, disabled, deaf, widowed and divorced. The lady said the program randomly selected people to receive money through the SBA under the CARES ACT. The odd thing is, the lady said she saw my wife’s name was on the FedEx list of names to receive a grant. I would have thought FedEx security would have shielded any list of names. It sounds like someone working their way through a list of the senior class. I’m guessing this isn’t the standard Nigerian grant scam. Anyone heard anything about this? I’m more interested in the mechanics of this than any money. I don’t want to be marked as a target for every Nigerian President.

Kind of looks like a scam. https://www.sba.gov/content/beware-scams Beware of Scams Small business owners often get calls, emails or letters from entities with motives that are far from altruistic. A good thing to keep in mind is that, "If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is too good to be true." The SBA doesn't offer grants to small business owners.

Just hope your wife doesn't get any ideas. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

SBA doesn't give grants. They underwrite loans given out by your bank. You work with the bank, not the SBA.

This. It's a scam. Anyone who has ever worked with the SBA knows they would never give money away without reams of paperwork and documentation If you need more documentation to convince, here you go: https://www.sba.gov/document/r...s-scams-fraud-alerts https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/b...ns-attracts-scammers “Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence.” - John Adams

There is an SBA grant under EIDL rules that has been given out as part of PPP but not pertaining to OP criteria. Caught it on a financial statement I received this month and had to research it.
