They are magnificent creatures! AKA “thumb-splitters” They have very complex eyes. I know a diver who had his dome lens port cracked by a mantis, flooding his camera.

Badass and tasty too! One of my favorites when I am in Hong Kong. Go to the fresh fish market at Lei Yue Mun and pick the fresh catch. Have it cooked up right there on the dock. Fry them up with garlic and some noodles.

Sounds like good advice, considering it could kill you on the way home otherwise! Eek

I watched a short video in which they said 40,000 frames per second. Any one know what that means ?

It means that images are captured 40,000 times every second. To put things in perspective, the frame rate for motion picture film is 24 frames per second. Video is 60 fps, I think.

Traditional TV, VHS tapes, DVDs, things like that, are 30 fps, while high definition TV, Blurays, etc., can be 30 or 60 (mostly 60 these days).

I hate offended people. They come in two flavours - huffy and whiny - and it's hard to know which is worst. The huffy ones are self-important, narcissistic authoritarians in love with the sound of their own booming disapproval, while the whiny, sparrowlike ones are so annoying and sickly and ill-equipped for life on Earth you just want to smack them round the head until they stop crying and grow up.

Used to catch them in my shrimp trawl pretty regular, spiky things, but they taste like regular shrimp to me, kind of a pain to peel.
