You’d think by this time, these various streaming services would have gotten together to come up with one sort of standard for a user interface?

Some of them seem much better than others, some are truly horrific to try to navigate and use.

One of my biggest pet peeves is the whole rewinding and fast forwarding feature, some of these services you just touch the back button and it goes back like 10 minutes. Others, you mash that button and it moves ever so slowly back, painfully slowly.

Some service’s interface seems sluggish to the point of there being something wrong, Disney+ seems to be a culprit for us.

What would you say is the best and worst interface out there of the major streaming services?

Sluggish interfaces are likely due to the speed of the computer/processor in your smart device.

There are a lot of cheap smart devices out there with woefully underpowered computer components inside.

Whereas poor layout/UI is the fault of the streaming service.

Our main TV is a TCL Roku TV and is relatively new and we have a pretty high speed Internet connection.

It seems like some services are fine, but others are painfully slow to try to navigate through or to even launch. Disney+ always spins for like a full minute and then launches, I don’t think it’s just us because I’ve seen lots of feedback online about this.

I certainly agree with you. We watch Youtube TV, Hulu, Discovery+, Amazon Prime TV, Apple TV and a few more via an Apple TV streaming device. We have excellent internet speed and consistency.

You're right. Some of the interfaces just plain suck. YouTube TV may be the best.

I've had Hulu for several years. Hate having to scroll through all the channels to get to the one that I want. I don't know why they can't assign each channel a number and allow you to go directly to that channel. Sure you have to learn random channel numbers, but I could quickly learn the numbers for the only 5 channels that I watch out of 500 channels.

Or, best case, they could put up a menu and have you select the channel you want like DirecTV and others have done. It's not that hard for a half way decent programmer.

This has been a pet peeve of mine for awhile now. Idiot SW developers who have no sense for UI, ergonomics, function click count, etc.

The behavior is not only different between apps, but also between a singular app on different devices. For example, I can remove items from History or Continue Watching lists for an app on one device but not on other devices. Go figure.

Idiots the lot of them - no app makes sense. The more sensical app for me seems HBOmax and even that's not perfect.

I can understand both sides of the issues and I can also relate. I like to close caption and sometimes it's in one corner or a different corner.

On the rewind, some you have to press more than once to speed up.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual."
