I am in a unique position. I’ve never been a breakfast person. I don’t usually even get hungry till 10:30 or 11AM.
If I do eat breakfast, I’m starving by lunch.
Also, I try to stop eating around 6-7 in the evening.

Now for the unique position; I’m trying to eat what I can grow. Right now that is beef cattle. I have a pasture full of them. So I have a freezer full of beef right. And I have traded for deer and elk also.
So, most of my meals consist of meat. And I try to drink no calories. That’s about as low carb as one can get.

I don't snack much anymore and we eat very healthy everyday. It's easy to do when the nearest McDonald's is 2hrs one way.

My wife has cut almost all processed food from our diet and she has to watch her A1C & iron intake (genetics). Also, the movement thing is real. Eat healthy, burn the calories, carbs, & whatevers that you eat.

But I do like a snack here and there.

Lundberg Thin Stackers, Black Pepper, Organic. Never thought there would be a rice cake I like, but these things are awesome. We make homemade roasted red pepper hummus to go on them.

Wife does about a dozen different peppers in the garden. Chickpeas out of the can into a bowl, rinse, drain, mix in some ground or crushed peppers while still wet, let them sit in the fridge a couple days, then roast.

Homemade beef jerky. The Safeway and Bashas have a meat sale war about every 45 days around here. I pounce on those and buy the uber cheap roasts, like 30lbs sometimes. I've bought enough sometimes to get it down under a buck a pound. I'm not sure the jerky I make is good for you if sodium is an issue as I use a fair bit of worcestershire and soy sauce. But I also moderate when I snack on that too.

I’m seeing success not so much by restricting/limiting certain foods, but rather strict portion control. I find I have fewer cravings that way and don’t feel like I am on a “diet”. I limit daily intake calories to at least 1500 fewer than daily burned calories. After 7 weeks, I’ve gotten used to the smaller servings and don’t feel unsatisfied after a meal. About the only time I even feel hungry is in the morning before breakfast.

The one thing I do try to limit is carbs due to being type a 2 diabetic. Thankfully, I’ve never been big on carbs so I don’t really miss bread, potatoes and such.

I still have 1-2 snacks a day, combined they make up about 250-300 calories, about 20% of my current daily 1200-1500 calories.

I started at 220 and I have plateaued at 275.

My stables are Steak, Chicken breast, Shrimp, various fish, mostly salmon, tuna, and cod.
Some lamb in season and eggs.

Three times a week I have a shake for breakfast/lunch and try not to eat before 11 AM and be done eating for the day by 7.

The shake is made of Almond milk, kefir, frozen fruits, protein powder, some nuts, and seeds.
I change the flavor either by using flavored kefir or using different fruits. I also sometimes add avocado, cinnamon, or fresh mint. I put in a Nutribullet blender. The whole thing takes about 5 minutes from start to finish. I make a small shake of about one cup of liquid and one cup of fruit. More than that is just too many calories.

Lots of veggies, all different colors; “eat the rainbow.”

Easier said than done (mea culpa). My idea of healthy “fast food” is any meat and a big ‘ol salad.

Snow peas. Eat them raw with about anything. My Llewellin likes to snack on them too. I figure they are better for her than eating grass.

Same except my “rainbow” is fruits. All colors. I splurge some every week and buy Kiwis and Dragonfruit. But all the berries that are high in antioxidants daily. Lots of grilled chickens salads. And no nightshades. I eat at least one sweet potato/yam every day as well. A lot of fish and some chicken. No pork or beef. I eat brown rice before workouts only. I try to do 220 grams of protein per day and low carbs if I’m not active.

Filet mignon/beef tenderloin.

Beef jerky as a snack (low sodium). The usual nuts, there are some protein bars that are good....the one that lists the ingredients on the front in big letters. RX bar I think it is.

Big jar of Kim chi with grilled venison or salmon (left overs). 8x8 pan of scrambled egg bake with 20 oz of squeezed out frozen spinach and feta mixed in. Warms up nicely.

You can find low carb tortillas in the grocery store, but these are way better:

Cheese wraps. Yummy.

i would like to try those. But nobody around has them. Hopefully I will ask my grocer if they can get. Thanks Sean.

I would like to find some healthy bread so occasionally I can have a piece of crunchy peanut butter toast.

Celery with peanut butter is a good snack too.
I know Almond butter is better. But in occasional and small amounts I will do PB Wink

^^^^ The Sara Lee brand of bread has a 45 calorie per slice of bread. My Sister was showing me this last week. I'm not sure what the carb count is, but can't be too bad as each slide is only 45 calories. The package will say Delightful on it. Walmart carries it, in fact every store around here carries it.

I can't remember the brand, but there is a flat bread, like a big flat cracker, rectangular pieces. They're very crunchy. I think they're sold in the cracker section, IIRC. I think its Norwegian flat bread.

It's low calorie.

Best wishes to you.

EDIT TO ADD: The brand is WASA. Just google WASA.

I have a theory about the carb thing that’s sort of come about from my own experiences. Carbs in fruits and vegetables are different than processed carbs, and it may be a mistake to mentally lump them all together. You can eat fruits and vegetables and avoid processed carbs and processed anything and watch the weight peel off. The amount of carbs you’d get from a banana or two a day vs the equivalent amount of carbs in breads, pastas and such have a noticeably different impact on the body. I’ve seen it myself using the lose it app. Days I take in more carbs from fruits and vegetables, I average weight loss vs days I cheat a bit and eat pastas and chips and such and gain. Again, my personal experience, ymmv.

Really, as long as you’re watching your portions, I don’t think you can go wrong eating natural and raw foods and cutting out processed everything.

Yes, big difference in “starch” carbs vs. “sugar” carbs and also refined/simple vs complex sugars. Fruits and veggies have fiber as well, which while technically are carbs the fiber carbs aren’t absorbed.

I find my blood sugar peaks lower with the same carb load if it comes from fruits vs bread, chips, etc. Complex sugars are digested and absorbed slower than simple or refined sugars.

Thanks for that Smudge and I tend to agree. But the even natural things can have lots of sugar. Though be it a natural version. Which is certainly way better than its processed counter part. Portions do matter.
Keep providing your personal experiences in this thread. We need those with your personal success in this matter. Wink

I've found that seasoning bonless skinless chicken breast makes it better when preseasoning. I hate the taste when seasoning is added later.

I've also done more tilapia (costco) and both of these in an air fryer.

As well, Zuchinni sliced like home fries in an air fryer with steak seasoning is not fries. But it tastes pretty good.

I haven't stopped drinking beer but I drink less and when I drink more than 1 I drink something like Michelob ultra. Low carb low cal and actually not bad. Its no IPA but not bad. I still have 1 "big" beer, IPA, Stout, etc but only 1 per day and I've moved drinking to my days off only.

Small plates worked well for me.

Also I'm doing intermittent fasting and need to get back to doing it with a day off every week. That was working pretty good.

If that doesn't change anything (it seems to work as long as I'm doing it but go away quickly) then I might go back to multiple small meals. I did that when I cut hard for police academy a while back. Then again metabolism in your 20s is not metabolism in your 40s.

A big salad can be very filling, tasty, and still low calorie/low carbs.

I’ll fix one 2-3 days a week for dinner.

3-4 cups chopped romain lettuce
1/2 to 3/4 medium tomato
4-5 sliced Black olives
1 serving peperoncini
1-2 oz croutons
3 tbls Italian dressing
80g chicken breast

Very filling, lots of flavor, and under 500 calories with less than 20g of carbs

I like those Nature Valley Protein bars at Costco. They do not taste like a supplement at all. Occasionally that is lunch or a snack when the cravings get bad. 190 calories each. 9 net carbs. 10 G protein.

Raisins can curb the desire for sweets if you can limit them to a handful.

Eating low carbs and lean protein meals often makes you have bad craving moments.
