On the older side, (can't speak for the newer ones) I have a 2008 Rav4 with the V6 engine. we bought it in 2015 for my wife to drive with the kids. It had 94k miles on it when we got it, but we've had no issues with it. we bought it when we had two kids - having a third kid, who was most definitely unplanned at the time we purchased the Rav, we've since upgraded my wife (she'd say downgraded) to a Sienna, so I've driven the Rav for the last 18 months or so.

We've both really loved the Rav. It's decent on fuel, has enough room for everything I've used it for, drives really well in the snow (We just got nearly 15 inches here last night, so I've definitely been thankful for it.)

We drove the Rav from Alpine, Utah to St. John's, AZ and back - no stops in the trip. It was a long drive, but we were fine.

It's now got around 125k on it, I believe, and we haven't had any issues - I really do enjoy it.

I spent 3 weeks in a 2018 RAV4 rental car after my truck was wrecked.
It ran well (in sport mode) got good gas mileage and drove like a solid, well made vehicle.
If I was in the market for a crossover, I would buy one.

Have a 2015 Limited AWD w/48k on it. Great fuel economy, excellent build quality and reliability . They are very capable in adverse weather if you mate them with a proper tire choice. I hated the stock Bridgestone Duelers and put Conti ExtremeContact DWS06 and it handles anything...even the massive amounts of snow we had the last few weeks.

I’m sure this will be handed down to our twins when they start driving in a few years and I have no worries about that. The newer ones are pretty sweet and offer a lot more than the previous model.

My wife bought a RAV4 hybrid a few years ago, and we liked it so much I got one for myself the next year.

We’ve had 2, the most recent being a 2015, both excellent.

We had a pair of V6 '08s. Great vehicles. Passed one on to our daughter last year. My only disappointment was that the AWD kicks out at 25mph and reverts to FWD. So we went with Subaru Outbacks this time since the RAVs are 4 banger now.

From my post above, the RAV4 Adventure is at the top of my list if I were to buy a vehicle today. But I'm also considering the CX-5 Turbo. Not as rugged looking but should be a hoot to drive with 310 lb./ft. of torque.
I'm going to the Auto show in Baltimore today and hopefully drive a RAV4.

We have a 2008 Sport model with the v6. Spent money on oil changes, tires, and an o2 sensor. Zero complaints. It's perfect for what we need. Would buy again.

I have a 2018 RAV4. If it weren’t for a squeaking noise in right front that I cannot pinpoint my opinion would be universally positive.

We've had good luck with them. Traded an '03 in with over 250k on the odometer for a '17 SE 4cyl. for my wife. It's her daily driver. Gets 28+ mpg in city driving. She keeps it in Eco mode, but I like driving it in Sport mode.

I'm sure it's pricey, but the new TRD Off-Road looks great, IMO.

But, in this segment, I'd probably have the CX-5 near the top. I drove a couple of Mazda6s with the new 2.5T & the CX would be great with that combo.

His comment was poorly worded. The RAV4 is the #1 selling non-truck vehicle in the US. The RAV4 hopped over the Camry to take that trophy.

You wanna talk pricey for a vehicle in this category, the CX-5 Turbo is going to be big money. And since a lot of people will likely be looking for that configuration, good luck wheeling and dealing on one.

I really don't get the 'sporty' discussions about vehicles in this category. For god sake, they're little more than glorified econoboxes. If you're interested in performance, there are other SUV's and cars that fit that bill. These things are about getting from A to B as cheaply as possible, while costing as little as possible to acquire in the first place.[/steps down from soapbox]

Wife bought an '08 used all by herself. 6cyl 2wd original South Carolina car.
I gave her a hard time about not getting AWD, but she didn't think it would be a big deal.
Changed her tune the first time she drove in snow.
Then it started eating alternators.
Replacing the alternator on a V6 Rav4 is a big job, labor-wise,
and after replacing it twice, she traded it in on a CR-V.
That one is no prize either. Very tinny sounding, and the 4 banger lacks in oomph.

I'm not a fan of either.
