It seems to me that this is a perfect example of FAFO for the victim.
I can see when there are times were deep thought and planning are required but this seems to be ridicules in this case. Spending over 1 hour of A committee deciding what action to take?

This officer knew what was going down before he pulled up. The offender had already threatened someone with lethal force displaying a deadly weapon. The next victim was in the offenders car stating she was in immanent danger of grave bodily harm or death and was close enough to the offender that he could have accomplished this. If he had dove back into his car he would have been immediately surrounded by hard cover and could have easily harmed the car passenger without the LEO's on scene being able to fire to stop him, plus, any fire would have greatly endangered the hostage.

The officer opened fire and hit the offender with his first shot then quickly fired two more rounds. He did not wait after the first shot, he didn't have to, YOU, shoot until YOU feel the threat is over, not what somebody else decides about the imminent danger, especially a bunch of news hacks!

Nice to see a LEO take control of a difficult situation and act.
I hope he gets a citation.

Reminds me of a WWII vet talking about the island campaign in the Pacific.
“We shot the guys with swords first.”

“Why…because you knew they were Officers?”

“NO! Because they had fucking swords!”
