I found a Hamilton watch that I'd like to purchase.
$600.00

How does one go about ensuring that what you are getting is the real deal.

They have'em on Amazon.
I'd rather walk in to a reputable b & m watch shop.

How do you know who to trust ?

I am not a connoisseur, and I don't know one.

Never mind

Stickman428 is Hamilton-savvy. I'll bet he'll be along shortly to help.

Care to post a link to the one you're looking at?

There should be a section that shows you where the watch is coming from. It should be a jeweler where you can look them up.

I’d bet Hamilton’s website will give you a list of authorized retailers near you. Chances are good that they’ll be legit as well. Hamilton Store Locator

I doubt Amazon is an authorized retailer and would guess those are listings from third party sellers you are seeing on Amazon. If you scroll down a little below the BUY NOW button, you should see "shipped by" and "sold by". If the "sold by" doesn’t say Amazon, then it’s a third party seller. Most watch companies will only warrant their watches if you bought the watch from an authorized retailer.

If you want to take a gamble, Jomashop is a reputable seller, but any warranty issues will be handled by their watch makers, not Hamilton.

At the very least call Dave. You can also check out jomashop.com. They are a gray market dealer, so you can get new watches for cheaper, they just don't come with the factory warranty; the warranty is provided by jomashop themselves.

Hamilton makes a nice watch. I picked up a nice used Khaki Field a few months ago and I'm quite enjoying it. Which model has your interest?

If the watch you're interested in is new and you don't need/want to see it in person before buying, you may be able to purchase directly from Hamilton via their website. I've bought several watches online directly from Hamilton with no problems.

Most ADs will happily sell the watch remotely and ship to you as well.

Jomashop is the place to buy.

If you get it with a metal bracelet, you can always change it to leather. It's MUCH more expensive the other way around.

Ditto, and I'd stay off Amazon for these things as well since you can't inspect it first hand.

Mars is right and I'll echo what he said: If you can't decide, then I suggest getting the steel bracelet. It's a matter of a small tool and maybe a minute or two to change it out yourself. If you want to get a bracelet later on, again, it's far more expensive.

Most watch enthusiasts tend to buy watches this way for exactly this reason, and because many of us tend to like to swap straps and bracelets quite a bit. My Hamilton has a black dial, and as a result, goes with basically any strap I'd want to put it on. I have probably a few dozen NATO straps I like swapping it between. It's currently on my wrist on a khaki NATO. The other day, it was on a black and green, and the day before that, blaze orange. Hamilton field watches look especially at home on a NATO or ZULU strap, and these are incredibly easy to change, takes less than a minute or so.

Post 'em up! I doubt there's a question you'd ask that none of us would be able to answer.

I called David, as he is my go to guy, but he is not an AD for Hamilton. I wanted a new Hamilton Ventura 80 so ordered one from Jomashop. Paid and then was told it was on backorder. Waited a year and it never showed, they did give me a full refund. Finally got one from another online seller. It's a great watch. Now I want a vintage Hamilton watch.
