My father-in-law is a great guy and I love him dearly. I knew he served in the Army from 1954-1960. Tonight at a family gathering he was talking about his time at the Aberdeen Proving Ground. He was on a team putting a newly developed light tank through it's paces (1957-58). It was under development as a light weight tank to be airdropped, its designation was the T92. He said it was nothing but a maintenace headache, but he had fun driving it. He told us it was much lighter because many of the parts (access doors, etc.) were made of aluminum. The tank never made it into production. Pretty cool history. Below is a photo of the tank he tested.

Nice looking tank. It lost to the Sheridan and its 152mm gun.

Sigmund - thank you for posting that. I am not certain my father in-law knows about the Sheridan and will share this with him.

I was in the army from 1955-1966. All but about 2 years in the 3rd Armored Division. Went thru basic at Ft. Knox then rotated with the entire division to Germany. Did about 9 years in the 3AD. most of those in Germany along the E/W German border. Watching them watch us.
