Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." If you made it to 60 without needing bifocals, you should thank your lucky stars!

60 this year, and I have needed reading glasses for close-up or delicate work for some time. I tried some progressive lenses once and didn't like them. The close-up part being in the bottom of the lens doesn't work when I have to look up or straight ahead at something.

Same age, myoptic and needing corrective since age 10. Recent eye exam and my correction improved 1.25 diopters from -3.5/-3.25 to
-2.25/-2.00. Can read fine all day without assist.

Doc said my ocular health is excellent,
retinas fine and no signs of cataracts.

I attribute this to nutrition and fanatical uv protection.

Good news! Don't worry about "cheaters". They come in 3 packs and don't cost much. I must have at least 6 pairs of them floating around.

My need is based on artificial lenses and corneal transplants in both eyes. Old style lenses which are fixed focus.

Actually, I can read without the glasses but it is very tiring for me, and I read a lot.

Good you you. At 66 I don't shoot much past 7 yards at the range anymore has my distance vision has gotten a bit worse. If I use my correction glasses the target looks sharp at 25 yards but the sights are blurry. I have to make an appointment soon myself. Last time eye exam two years also showed I had very beginnings of cataracts.

That's good news.

I've been using readers for 10 years, started at 1.25 but up to 1.50 power now. The biggest PIA was how to carry them to have them available at all times. Sometimes my shirts didn't have a pocket, hooking them on the neck of my shirt worked ok but they often fell when I bent over. Cord attached to sides to let them hang from my neck was a good solution but often the cords would bunch up around my temples or slip to the back. I bought multiple pairs in order to stash a pair everywhere I might need them but over time 2 or 3 pairs ended up in some places while others had none.

Then I saw someone wearing Click Glasses and was so impressed I bought a pair. They open up and hang around your neck, when needed just place them on your nose and they magnetically click together. I put them around my neck in the morning and they're always there. They're amazingly durable too the hinges and frame material are so much more durable than Walmart 3-pack readers. My grandsons got them off my neck and before I could get them back were pulling them apart almost straight like pulling the turkey's wishbone, didn't phase them. Not just readers but any kind of glasses. Highly recommended. http://www.clicmagneticglasses.com

Be happy. I'm 33 and can't see anything farther than about a foot from my face without lenses. Need them for everything, reading to driving.

A Perpetual Disappointment...

Between the wife and I, I bet we have 10 or 12 pairs of reading glasses lying around the house. Never seems like enough though. Another reason why I never buy any kind of shirt without a pocket. Frown
