Thank you Very little |
How do these things work it appears that threads with yellow bulbs have new posts, however that's not always the case, and in many instances some threads, no matter how often you open and look, won't change from yellow (new) to white or off(nothing new) Or am I incorrect, is there a setting or browser thing with this, using Brave and Chrome, same thing. Not really anything problematic, just curious if others see the board doing the same stuff. I tend to look into the sub forums with new threads first ie the painted house icon, then at threads with lit bulbs (Yellow) to see what's new, however many times the lit bulb threads are the same as the last time I read them.. In my mind they are read, and should be bulb off or white indicating no new activity. Others do change to an unlit bulb with no new posts, is there some time frame or reason the indicators don't change... It's hinky...

I think the bulb stays lit for about 30-45 minutes on posts. I "watched" threads years ago, those I read, and those I did not, and I think that was about the time limit. Has nothing to do with you reading or not, posting or not. "the meaning of life, is to give life meaning" ✡ Ani Yehudi אני יהודי Le'olam lo shuv לעולם לא שוב!

It's tied to your last visit to Sigforum. The yellow bulbs are threads with new posts since your last visit to the forum. Similar to the colored houses on the main page. Those show subforums with new posts since you last accessed the forum.
They stay lit for much more than 30-45 minutes. There are times that I only access the forum once over a few days' time, and there will be pages of yellow bulbs going back to my last visit days before. Or if you check it before going to bed, and then again in the morning, there will be lit bulbs going back to the prior evening 8+ hours ago. However, if you're actively browsing the forum for an extended period of time, there may be a 30-45 minute delay before the bulbs get grayed out while actively browning and reading threads.

Try logging out and in again to see if that resets the bulb status. ETA: well that didn't work, maybe it's a cookie thing.

I'm seeing longer times, as much as overnight, could be that SF gets left open on the desktop still, wouldn't that 'time out' the bulb. I've seen it say I have new posts to read, and the last post is my post, which is a new post, but I'll reopen the thread and it still remains a lit bulb.

It indicates there are participants in the thread who have left lights on in an empty room somewhere. You’re a lying dog-faced pony soldier

Has anyone tried, you know, like mousing over the light bulbs?

I think the light bulbs mean "New content since the last time you logged in." If you have a program that cleans out your browser's cookies, when you log back on, it thinks you haven't seen the threads yet so it's new content for you. That's my theory. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." I stay logged in on both my phone & computer, so the 'new' threads can get a bit screwy if I browse on both devices during the day. The Enemy's gate is down.
