Hey all-

I'm in the market for a really great modular helmet. I know that it's going to be spendy Smile

Right now, I'm looking for current or former owners of Schuberth C3/C3 Pro and/or Shoei Neotec to give me their loves and hates about those helmets.

The prices seem pretty close to equal.

Which one do you have and what do you think?

Bruce

I have a Shoei Neotec. I tried all the modular offerings at the International Motorcycle Show and the Neotec medium fit and felt the best of them all. Personally I'd prefer if it didn't have the pull down internal sun visor but they all seem to have them anymore. The lining is easy to remove for cleaning, it's quiet, the flip up chin section and visor work smoothly, and the overall helmet quality seems very good. Mine's white (I always buy white helmets) and I bought it online from The Helmet Shop. IIRC I had to call for the "best price".

If something happened to it and I had to buy another modular I'd buy it again.

I currently ride with a Schuberth C3, and have a new C3 Pro being delivered this week. I ordered the Pro because my current C3 is 6 years old, the prices are coming down a little due to the new C4 coming out soon. The C3 fits my head perfectly and is light for a modular. I would pick the one that fits the best. They are pricey, but how much is your head worth. You can't go wrong with either one you are looking at provided it fits well. Schuberth tend to fit oval head shapes.

I think the shape of your head will be the determining factor.

Head shape ultimately determines the outcome, but...

IMO, Schuberth is the better helmet.

Very quiet, the most quiet by test.

I do enjoy the bluetooth setup as well, it's discreet and built in.

Shoei saved my head once in a low speed crash. Wish I had been wearing one on my shoulder to! Big Grin

Using a C3 and after my wife tried it, bought her a C3W Pro. Head shape, as others have stated, is the biggest factor to consider.

I didn't find the Shoei to be to the same level of quality the C3 has. The new C4 should be an interesting lid.

I have an older Concept model Schuberth, one of the first flip ups and a Nolan N100. I'll take the Schubbie any day,fit is better, quieter and less buffeting. My next helmet will be a C3.

Fit and comfort trump all.
No matter how high quality your helmet is, if it is uncomfortable yo will be miserable after an hour or so.
So make sure to actually try them.
I have found that if there is the slightest discomfort, I will never "get used to it" or "break it in". Instead it just progressively drives me more crazy....like Chinese water-drip torture.
So choose wisely on fit.

I've owned three modular flip up helmets, and the Schubert was nybfar the best fitting and the quietest. It also had the lowest level of venting and ifnthe outside temp got above 60 it started to get warm. I also found that while the Schuberth worked great out in the breeze, it did't work well behind a faring. JMHO, YMMV......

These guys have a great selection, located in Daytona, have decent prices. I bought a HJC modular helmet for full face needs.

It has internal spots for the com system on the bikes speakers, vents that I can open and close, and it was one of the few with a 5X size, the others were much tighter, or didn't offer larger sizes, yeah got a big melon

Venting is a big need, for me.
It will be 120F here, in a few weeks.

Thanks for all the input, everyone.

Just flip up the front, that way you get 100% of the dry hot air in your face Big Grin

The Neotec saved my life...without question. Not saying another wouldn't have, just that I'll never put another model on my squash.

Now if they just made one for ankles I'd be golden.

That's what I did. The issue with the Schuberth is the modular part sticks straight out, unlike the Nolan which rotates in close to the shell. With the Nolan I could ride like an open face without mush trouble. With the Schubert the flip up acts like an air scoop, and I don't mean in a good way. Plus, unless they changed something current Schuberth lids aren't Snell certified.

They do. They're called "Aerostich Combat Touring Boots". Wink
