Conductor in Residence |
This afternoon, a student at the high school where I serve as vice principal posted a social media picture of her holding a pistol and threatened to attack the school. Our process to deal with this kind of threat was so tight that the student was in custody with local police and charged within two hours of making the post. The charge is "making a written threat to kill, do bodily injury or conduct a mass shooting or act of terrorism." My takeaways: -we have an awesome team of administrators that is able to respond in circumstances where the safety of or campus is threatened, and we have a terrific police department that cooperates and takes these matters seriously. -our school had trained students and staff to report things of this nature so we can investigate -these situations move faster than anything I've ever seen. Less than two hours from the post being made to the student in custody and charged. I'm impressed. -this shit is real, and it has the potential to happen anywhere. We are in an era that all of these threats are taken seriously.

That’s excellent to learn, and I will remember it as an example of what can be done. Many people love to wallow in the ignorant self-indulgence of believing that an organization like a school today could not possibly deal with a threat effectively other than setting up M2s in every classroom and firing anyone who wasn’t ready and able to man them, but this demonstrates what is happening in the real world today. Kudos to all involved. ► 6.4/93.6 “It is a habit of mankind to entrust to careless hope what they long for, and to use sovereign reason to thrust aside what they do not desire.” — Thucydides; quoted by Victor Davis Hanson, The Second World Wars

Crap can happen anywhere. Wednesday a local elementary school went into immediate lockdown with ALICE protocols minutes after police dispatch received a call about someone with a gun nearby. https://rapidcityjournal.com/n...source=home-trending Certifiable member of the gun toting, septuagenarian, bucket list workin', crazed retiree, bald is beautiful club! Outstanding work! I hope (in vain, most likely) that this gets plenty of publicity as a deterrent to copy cats. _________________________ “Remember, remember the fifth of November!"
