chongosuerteA Thank you to Agony, or, Once Upon a Time I Won a Karma
A lot of you guys have been very good to me over the years, even in the last few weeks. Some of you have blown my mind with your generosity during dark and hard times in the past, or with random acts out of the blue. None of your acts of kindness have been overlooked, I'm actually getting misty-eyed thinking about some of it...
But there is one Karma that was gifted to me years ago that has been by my side every shift of EMS or police work since (along with a couple of others not mentioned here!).
A simple folding Boker rescue knife with a curved tip to protect the victim, won in a karma well over a decade ago, has been my go-to in countless situations. I've recommended it to everyone I've worked with. Using a regular knife to cut clothing under stress is a major hazard, and most officers don't carry trauma shears on us.
Tonight we had a victim shot multiple times. We were on scene almost immediately, giving first-aid. My guys did an extraordinary job. We needed to expose the victim to properly treat him so out came my Boker, as so many times before.
Looking back in my email, I see that I won the knife in December of 2006, in a Karma by Agony. In it he said "...hope it serves you well someday, and helps to save a life."
Well, sir, it certainly has. Many times over. And it will continue to be with me for the rest of my career.
Thanks to all of you who have been so kind to me over the years. Love this place!
Knowing what one is talking about is widely admired but not strictly required here.
Although sometimes distracting, there is often a certain entertainment value to this easy standard.

0-0Thank you chongo.
I consider most of you as family. Distance puts us a lifetime away but this board bring us close every day.
You helped me put together a med kit when I taught my kids to shoot, years ago and I have a weird looking rescue knife/bar that I believe you sent me. Gladly, I've never had to use them but there are a constant reminder of what kindness and this extraordinary brotherhood mean.
Thank you again and always.

redstoneNot really a karma, but I got a flashlight with a gun purchase years ago. It wasnt part of the purchase, was just a bonus.
Last year a family hit a deer in front of me, hard. He pulled partially off but was obviously hurt "my back feels weird" he said. I use my flashlight daily, but was able to help him get his family off the road etc.
Blessings on this forum benefit both the receiver and many others. Thank you for the great story and reminder. I am a grateful member here as well.

Rey HRHGood of you to remember. Agony doesn’t post much anymore, right? I remember his icon was a person looking over the top of sunglasses pulled down. There may have been a lollipop, too. I don’t remember names much.
"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.
