they have been spotty all over the area, and the local news is in full dramafest,

one guy was killed when the old dominion flooring building was hit

there were 9 other sightings, all to the west side of town (none in town near Jim) that have yet to be confirmed

just raining and a bit of thunder here in the west end,
wife is home (near the south west side of the state park, ) with no damage,
my mother lives on the north east side of the park with no issues,

If Jim's near home, we are right in the middle of it. He's in the West End, I'm in Southside, and both areas have been hit. At one point local news was tracking 8 twisters. We had a nasty squall line oriented from south west to north east with cells moving along the line. Work and schools were shelter in place until 5:30. Talked to one friend who saw a tornado cross the road in front of her, debris flying cutting down trees. My family has been lucky so far, I'll get away with a flooded basement.

I don't think these were particularly large or powerful. I heard them referred to as spin-up tornadoes common in the wake of tropical storms.

We're fine. Lots and lots of rain but little wind--turning the sprinkler system of was a wise decision. The dog is putting herself up for adoption.

My daughter texted from the basement of a school building; she's a FR at Virginia Commonwealth U. in Richmond. All is well.

My first semester in law school at U of R we had a hurricane (Isabel), a tornado, and an earthquake (from the same fault thst had the big DC earthquake a few years back) and I looked at my wife and said “exactly where in the hell did we move to?!?!

I’m glad everyone is safe

I have been following the Tornadoes that touched down in Richmond, VA and researched where the damage was.

The church and neighborhoods in the Patterson/Parham area that were mentioned in the news is where our old house is. (which will be a year this week that we moved).

For some reason that area always take a lick one way or the other.

If I recall, I think the intersection of Patterson/Parham is the highest point in Richmond - i.e., the highest altitude. That might have something to do with it.
