Yes, I'm glad it's happening. But, oh, aren't I saddened by yet another indicator of the decline of our society? In this case, no, and that's especially true since this is the least of it. We have retards running the country and our military thinks it's vital for guys to dress up in drag and wiggle hairy man-ass at children. Our Southern border is one giant Welcome Mat, et cetera, et cetera, so, no, I am not bothered by Beyonce or Aldi or whoever the fuck getting smacked in the face by a chunk of whatever.
Harry Styles? Before this news article, I couldn't have picked the guy out in a police line-up and I have never, ever heard any of his music and I don't care to. What I do know is that these concerts have become obscenely huge, corporate-sponsored symptoms of the vacuousness of our society and that these "performers" are a big part of the problem with the young people of the world.
My only problem with this "trend" (can you even believe that the world is such, that this is a trend??) is that these audience members who are assaulting the royalty on stage seem to be half-assing it. Let's get serious. They're not doing any lasting damage. If Taylor Swift got hit with, oh, say a small couch or something like that, it'd be game over. No more concerts the rest of the year, and her PTSD might keep her off the stage for good. Maybe have one of those big Klieg lights dropped on her from the rafters. A glancing blow is fine. Wouldn't want princess to break anything...

I have the security solution. Two words:
Chicken wire

Time to put up chicken wire around the stage.
Like in Roadhouse part of the movie clip showed beer bottles hit chicken wire and they kept playing and singing.
Still my favorite movie.

Hank Williams once spoke of the guitars he played. He said Martins were great guitars but that Gibsons were better in bar performances because they stood up better to the effects of thrown beer bottles.
Dale Watson said he started playing in a band as a teen behind chicken wire in rowdy bars in Houston. He spoke of seeing dents in the wire but swears that one bar had remnants of human hair and what looked like scalp material. He was mystified about how it got there so high off the floor.

A couple narcissistic douchebags who WANT to be caught doing this and go “viral” will ruin all concerts for the rest of us when eventually you will be required to surrender your phone, keys, any sort of object to be able to enter a venue.
The guy who was caught throwing his phone at that female singer a week or two ago seemed very pleased with himself at all the attention.

I think Ted Nugent handled this situation very well. I was at a Nugent concert in the late 70’s and someone threw something that landed on the stage near him during one of his songs. Ted immediately stopped the band and said something to the effect that if anyone threw anything else at the stage the concert was over. He also said that before the band left the stage he would point out the person responsible. No more junk was thrown at the stage.

I was at a Van Halen concert (1984 tour) when someone threw a marijuana pipe at diamond Dave. He of course told security to give the throwers girlfriend a backstage pass

I saw Nugent at a rock festival in 1979 in So. Calif. All sorts of bands- Aerosmith, Van Halen, Cheap Trick, Toto, Eddie Money, April Wine, UFO, etc. But on the first day, The Boomtown Rats, a relatively unknown band at the time, opened the show at 1pm and the crowd hated them from the start, even though I thought they were the most interesting band there. In their 30 minute set, they were pelted by grass and dirt clods torn up from the infield, cups of sodas, food, etc. Lead singer Bob Geldof was egging the crowd on, calling them "fucking wankers" and such, and at one point for maybe half a minute, a barrage of hundreds of grass clods, food, sodas, etc. were heaped upon the band while Geldof took photos with a camera. That was the only time I ever seen anything like it. It took extra time for the cleanup crew to clear the stage for the next band.

I think you're underestimating their douchery.
Remember when the Travis Scott concert when all of the people were crushed? Prior to the concert, a bunch of youts rushed the Harris County deputies (i.e. real law enforcement not faux security) manning one of the gates and overwhelmed them. The concert promoter chose to let the concert continue anyway knowing there were thugs that hadn't been screened. Heck, one security guard felt a prick to his neck, went unconscious, and had to have Narcan administered.
I think the law abiding people like you and I will follow the rules for any additional security, but then again we aren't the ones throwing shit. Meanwhile, the shitbags will group up, rush security, and get into the concert unscreened. The money grubbin' promoters will let the concert go on and objects will continue to be thrown at the performer.

I use to perform in front of audiences. 2500-5000 people up to 10k on the reg. I’m thankful this never happened to me but in this current society, 100% agree, doesn’t surprise me one bit.
And 100% on this now being turned into corporation President Business arenas, events, etc. Gone are the days of true artists saying Fuck You, being 100% honest with their music, their concerts, you know being real. Now it’s all popularity index type crap and few artists have NOT sold their soul off to be famous. I got tired of it a decade ago when I’d play and have all these millennials sticking their phones in my face. The way I saw it, I don’t get paid off of that and all be damned if I’m going to let you film me and monetize my playing to your benefit and I don’t get a dime.
The ticket prices, Ticketmaster fees, fuck all of it, and I used to be in that business. I have even watched festival footage, of stuff I played at before, and the gen z people go there to just film it or stream it with little interest in the music. They are just getting “lit” and doing moronic shit. As said, just more indication of the fall of our society into the gutter. Why would you pay all that ticket money, parking fees, standing in line, being crowded up against thousands of people then chunk shit at the artist? The answer to that question is the same problem I had going to commercial cineplexes. Why would you pay $20 for a ticket, go opening night or weekend, to see the latest film, just to break out your phone every couple of minutes? Mindless.
What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone

Almost entirely unrelated to the thread: I saw Ted Nugent at the House of Blues in Myrtle Beach a bunch of years ago. I couldn't hear well for three days afterward!

I went to a Willie K concert in Maui. I really admire his versatility. But the sound levels are controlled by the band crew. I had to leave after 10 minutes—and I’m already half deaf!
