Anybody using a scan tool on your cars?
I'm looking at these two-
Scangauge II and OBDLink MX+.
If anybody has insight on these I'd be interested in your opinion.

What exactly are you looking to do? Just get codes? Generic OBD2 data? Data from ABS, BCM, HVAC, etc? Bidirectional control?

I have a few pro-level tools for my business, and you really need to decide just what capability you would like, and buy the next step up from that.

I’m not familiar with the tools you listed, but I would look hard at Autel’s lineup. They have basic homeowner code-readers to $6k+ tools with built-in scopes, and everything in-between.

I use the OBDLink MX+. I use it with Forscan Lite and the OBDLink iPhone Apps. My wife and I travel with the MX+. It makes it really easy to pull codes on the road. The firmware updates through the app. It can save the diagnostic files to Dropbox. The product has been great. i also have the OBDLink EX that i use with the laptop. the EX is the corded version. BTW, the MX+ can work with other apps like Bimmerlink or Bimmercode. I just think you can't go wrong with the OBDLink products.

I’ve got the OBD JSCAN.

Worked simply and as advertised when I went to 35’s on my Rubicon to correct the speedometer. That’s about all I used it for although it has a bit more capability than that. I’ve got a manual transmission so I wasn’t changing shift points or anything. Some features regarding lights etc were useful.

I have had the OBDLink MX+ for years now and it works great. It’s far more versatile than the Scanguage II. But the Scanguage comes with its own screen while the OBDLink requires a phone or tablet to display.
OBDLink is a touch expensive but it includes all the premium PIDs for as many years and models as you want.
Many charge you per vehicle model and year to download the PIDs.

While the scan tool is great I use it mostly for real time vehicle monitoring. Which brings me to my two gripes. It very much has a learning curve and on my Tundra (all Toyotas may be this way) but the TPMS system is on a different network than all the other vehicle readouts I use.
OBDLink can’t connect to two networks simultaneously So I can’t monitor TPMS and my other needs without connecting and reconnecting to switch readings.

Bluedriver for the rest. Haven't used either in a while.

Bluedriver has a lot of features

Like 'rainmaker5505' posted, it REALLY all depends on what vehicle, and what you need the scan tool for.

While many of these plug in 'scan tools' may work pretty well for American cars, and most Japanese cars, they only offer limited functionality for European cars, and in my experience, VERY limited! I had an OBDLink MX+, and I can attest that it was basically useless for my Volvo S60.

However, if you've got a Ford, Lincoln, Mercury or a Mazda, and you need a capable tool, FORScan (running on a PC) combined with the OBDLink EX USB is what you want.

I know for a fact that for VW/Audi, you want Ross-Tech VCDS...Period! It runs on a PC and is essentially the same VAG-COM tool that the factory VW/Audi techs use. I've saved THOUSANDS $$ using VCDS on our Audi S5! Cool
