if anyone, let NATO handle it. WITHOUT AMERICAN INVOLVEMENT.
Hong Kong is a bit far afield for action by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
While NATO did support Afghan operations, it did so because "an attack on one member organization is an attack on all."
Which NATO signatory has been attacked in Hong Kong?

ensigmaticSend in the Marines? Yeah, because with the entire Chinese People's Liberation Army on just the other side of a river, what could possibly go wrong? <smh>
That's gotta be one of the all time dumbest, most clueless suggestions I've ever heard.

slosigOne of the wisest guys I know taught that the first question is not, “How can I best fix this problem?” or even, “What is the best way to fix this problem?” but rather, “Is this my problem to fix?” Since it is patently obvious that it is not our problem to fix, there should not be one drop of American blood put at risk.

MikeinNCNope, not our fight.
We shouldn’t be acting like the world police either.

jljonesDoes it matter? It would be liberated in less than 48 hours, most of the city would be broken, and the women pregnant.

I realize that but to answer the OP, if they don’t care why should we. The smart money in Hong Kong took off after the transfer not trusting the Chinese to stick to the 50 year deal. HK was the crown jewel of Asia. Now, China is going to destroy it.

Damn right.
Marines like to party. It would take six months to get them back out of Hong Kong, and the town would never be the same.
And the Marines would be broke.
There's a lot to do in Hong Kong.

VeeperSo Britain owned HK, worked out a plan for it to revert to communist China, and now people expect the US to go to war with China about it?

joel9507Somehow I missed where the US had any automatic treaty obligations to ex-British colonies.

That city is like the obverse of cancer, where the healthy bit is small and the uncontrolled growing disease surrounds it. I wish them well but shudder at the prognosis.

Rick LeeI predict the PRC will cave to the protestors by lip service only, but will then quietly round up the biggest trouble makers and disappear them in the Mainland. Anyone who makes too much of a fuss about it might get a warning, but they'll also meet the same fate if they persist. The PRC has always had their own goons mixed in with the HK police and any potential dissident groups.
