BytesBe There for Your Pet at the End of Life!
I put two cats (brothers) down. Those two boys were the light of my wife's and my lives. Having a traveling vet come over and put them down was the worst day of my life. Bar None. I am grateful I was able to be there but damn it sucked

coloradohunter44The hardest, worst part of having pets. No doubt about it. It rips a part of your heart and soul out. Yet, I long for another dog after losing Candy last January. As of now I am unable to get the wife to agree to finding another hunting dog. We both have been unable to wipe her last nose art off the sliding glass door. I hope I see all my beloved pets on the other side.

gearhoundsEvery pet we’ve had leave us has been surrounded by the family. I couldn’t imagine EVER not being there with family when they pass.

This! Had dogs and cats my whole life. Only once was it suggested they take him out back to do the deed. I said over my dead body.
I have sobbed like a child for every pet I’ve put down. They are so much more than pets; they are full fledged family members. They give so much during their lives it is the LEAST I can do to be with them.

My GF is a Cat Lady, hopefully now in remission as we only have one, but honest-to-god I can't count all the cats we have had over the years. It's at least 20, and I was there for each of them when they crossed over.
Little Bella, the black cat I posted on the first page, got sick one day, I took her to the Vet who said, "yeah, all animals occasionally pass bloody black stool, don't worry about it", but a couple hours after they closed for the day she collapsed in agony. The closest 24-hour vet was over 40 miles away, so I laid on the floor with her trying to comfort her until she died at 6:15 the next morning. We had some pain meds that I gave her, but they didn't help much. All I could do was pet her, talk to her, and wipe up her bloody diarrhea.
I don't post here when these things happen, because it's too painful.
